  1. I'll tune into stuff tomorrow morning, but the real must see TV starts 11am Eastern on Thursday (CAN v NZL). I'll be out most of Friday, but will try to watch everything I can, especially the Canadian content, on the weekend. Unfortunately, I have a flight on Monday, but I should be able to watch stuff before noon.
  2. Canada always underperformed at the Olympics, and have not played well in the exhibition games. They fell ass backwards into qualifying at all, and I'd be somewhat surprised if they make it out of the group stage.
  3. I remember anticipating their magazine in stores before the Olympics every year. The last time was the 2010 Olympics, I believe. It's indeed gone downhill.
  4. They have Summer McIntosh winning medals in the 200 and 800 free, neither of which she's racing. They also have Pierce LePage winning a medal in decathlon even though he's not going to be there (this one is more forgivable since he pulled out just days ago due to injury).

  6. As you said, Canada is underestimated here. 19 medals would be disappointing for sure. However, although McIntosh's chances are realistic (2-1-1), her being the only swimming medals for Canada is pretty crazy. Not impossible, but a lot would have to go wrong for that to happen. Honestly, I just think media aren't aware of smaller countries and just put big names out there while resorting to the big countries to fill in the gaps.
  7. Yeah. In the past I just leave the stream playing somewhere and try to rewind, but that's very imperfect and doesn't work with more than an hour max delay. Like I said here before, Beijing, Tokyo, Pyongyang and Rio were all more or less in my time zone and I wasn't working those weeks. I'll have to adjust this time.
  8. Do you know if there's any way to watch a stream later on cbc without getting spoiled?
  9. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Still a great showing, though! Someone had to rep North America in the top 4.
  10. I was about to say, don't know why I expected anything different...
  11. I have the first half week of competition off work (Wed-Wed), but I have a travel day in there and will be EST (New York). Will watch as much as possible. After that, at work and CST (-2 from NY). Swim/Athletic finals line up with lunch break mostly, but will rely on delayed stream unfortunately. Will do my best on 2nd and 3rd weekends to watch live. The last the 4 OG (Rio, Pyeongchang, Tokyo, Beijing) I either lived in or +/- 1 hour of the host. I'm actually currently in Paris' time zone (in Africa) but will leave next week.
  12. That forecast is extremely pessimistic. McIntosh not podiuming in the 400 or 200 IM stands out, but some other odd choices. 20 medals would be incredibly disappointing, imo.
  13. This is a conservative take. It's possible just our swimmers + track/fielders get that. Heck, Summer could get 4 golds all by herself (COULD). I'd say if things work out well, Canada could push 30 overall and 10 golds. I think 25/7 is more likely based on Canadian athlete's usual performance under pressure, though. But I'm with you, it's better to have lower expectations and be surprised than to have dreams busted. The real question is, how many 4ths with Canadians get. I'm going with 22, about average.
  14. Frustrating that they were less than a second off qualifying in the Bahamas without their best (specifically Morales Williams). I know it's harder to get the gang together to rise in the rankings now. Still hoping the women can finally move up.
  15. That time is incredible. Does Canada have any chances to qualify the mixed 4x400 team left? Our runners just seem to be improving so much.
  16. Great news. Yes, that's usually how I do it with the combat sports. Now with Canada with so many chances in swimming/athletics (and even gymnastics) it'll be a busy two weeks. Add in all the other Canadian chances and sports I just enjoy watching. And my job is cruelly making me go back to work during the Olympics.
  17. As a Canadian, I'm rooting for the Bahamas and Egypt. They deserve their turn at the Olympics, this has nothing to do with the group draw.
  18. So that means Canada will take part in the team event? I don't always have the time to watch all of judo, but the team event was fun to watch in Tokyo.
  19. I think most people here would love a 3 week Olympic Games, but I'm not sure the general public has the attention for that. Most casual viewers I know say they're "done" by the end of the Olympics. It's sort of like Christmas; start too early and you take away the magic of it. I agree with eliminating the semi-finals in swimming, at least for the 200m races. I also agree with adding more track cycling events. And now for my crazy idea. Hear me out! A team event in the field disciplines in athletics. Each country has a high jumper, long jumper, shot putter, hammer thrower, etc., for all 8 field events. They collect points like in decathlon. Countries must have 4 men and 4 women. Each athlete gets three jumps/throws. Not only would this be fun, but it gives field athletes a second opportunity to compete like most track athletes have.
  20. For sure. Knox won't do it, since the 200IM and 50 free prelims are back to back.
  21. And Pickrem right behind her. They would have been 1-2 in Tokyo.
