  1. Tuned in when NDL was up 10-5, Canada ends up taking it 25-22. Just doing my part!
  2. It's ridiculous. It's been 1.5 years, what's more time going to do? It's obvious they're trying to wait long enough for people to forget so they can let the cheating Russians keep their medal. Yet again it is proven any competition where Russian athletes take part is a farce.
  3. I think you mean the 2010 Commonwealth Games in respect to India. I bring this up because that was a long time ago now, and it'll be even longer come 2036. I don't think many would have expected China to host the Olympics in 1982 (same time difference). I'm not saying this in support of an Indian bid, I'm just pointing out that 2010 is pretty much irrelevant now. I love Cape Town and it would be incredible to see the Games there, but I agree that it might not be ready yet. I still want Istanbul to host, it's such an incredible city at a cultural crossroads. Poland is interesting, and there's no obvious outsider reason it shouldn't host, but I'll leave its real motivations and finances to people who know better. Budapest is lovely and have done a great job in recent years with Aquatics and Athletics. 2036 might be time to return to the Far East, but having a similar timezone as Brisbane 32 might not make Europeans or Americans happy. If it's Qatar we riot. Of course, unofficially, where the Winter Games will be in 2030 and 2032 will also influence these decisions. It'll be interesting to see.
  4. As a biased Canadian, I think Summer uses Fukuoka as inspiration to be ready for the 400m in Paris. Also, she won't be peaking for the nationals like this year, she will be peaking for Paris. I will never underestimate Ledecky or Titmus and they can come out hard, too (as they did in Fukuoka) but I see Summer taking her WR back in this race, setting the tone for her domination over the week. And if she wins the 400m, I see her helping Canada stay on the podium for the relay later that night. But that depends more on the state of Ruck (and to a lesser extent Oleksiak who always rises to the occasion).
  5. I looked him up a few days ago in anticipation of this competition. Canada usually does well in new sports at the Olympics, until other countries catch up. Hoping he can continue his success in Paris, but I feel like new sports with ambiguous scoring usually have "interesting" winners at the Olympics, often to attract certain big market countries (look at the USA in snowboard slopestyle in 2014).
  6. The top 5 ranked teams not already qualified will do so through rankings, correct? Canada is now #5 on the yet to be qualified teams, but it also has to included teams from all continents. Africa and Oceania do not have qualified teams, so do they automatically get spots (Kenya and Australia)?
  7. Just looking at Canada, it's pretty crazy you can go 5-2 in the qualifying tournament and be (potentially) ranked in the top 10 in the world and still not make the Olympics.
  8. Great upset, but the road is still tough to qualify. All they can do now is win.
  9. I personally never had any doubt. Unrelated, how does one go back to delete comments?
  10. Just pointing out I never agreed to this. I was just jinxing them. I never had a doubt they'd come up with bronze.
  11. My obsession with FOURTH is really just a running joke. All I really cared about this tournament was securing an Olympic berth and maybe getting experience for some of the younger guys. The Olympics will be a different beast with the NBAers there, and if Canada can field its best team of pros we should be a favourite for the podium. Which means we'll finish fourth.
  12. We're Number Four! Bronze, Silver, Gold Those Get So Old! Just Out the Door, It's Canada at Number Four! Not Third, Not Second, Not First But Certainly Not the Worst! Who Would Ever Want More Than Comfortable Number Four? Why Can't the Other Nations See We Don't Even Want Top Three Deep In Our National Core Is a Maple Syrup Drenched Number Four!
  13. They'll be playing the USA for bronze. Like I said...
  14. I think this will be the case. NBAers have traditionally not played for Canada at qualifiers, but I think they'll show up at the Olympics. Everyone wants to be the Dream Team.
  15. And unless Oleksiak comes back strong, the sprint freestyle has suddenly dried up, too. Still think they'll compete for a medal in the women's medley in Paris, and maybe even the mixed medley if they decide to go for it. The latter is much harder, though. Putting Angus/LePage on the breaststroke will improve the team, but replacing McNeil with Liendo won't really move the dial. Not sure if it'd be enough. The other good news is, reviewing the times from Fukuoka, Gaziev did great in the relays on the freestyle. After two strong finishes in the men's freestyle relays in Tokyo and Fukuoka, they're just lacking one more 47-second guy to really challenge for a medal.
  16. Well, Canada settling in for a comfortable 4th place finish. At least they locked up that Olympic berth first.
  17. Between this and Sophie Angus, Canada might have finally filled their breaststroke role in the relays. Unfortunately it comes at a time where they are falling behind in the other strokes.
  18. Canada just setting up for their usual 4th place finish, as expected. At least they got their Olympic quota....where they will finish 4th.
  19. They previously always finished 4th for Olympic qualifying at this tournament.
