  1. people here follow the politics in Egypt very closely. mostly for cultural similarity. but for most people that's confusing. why we had a revolution in first place when eventually Egypt ended up with someone similar to Mubarak on office. btw Mubarak or Mursi this is really not good to put former presidents in a "cage" during the trials. anybody can have a heart attack in that situation.
  2. AFC 2nd round seeding
  3. it was always like this in past few years, they never mention it in documents and live results yet they also award another bronze medal to the 3rd place match loser. that's their rule http://www.asianfencing.com/fca2013/pdf/2018-conditions-for-hosting-afc.pdf in first page in "awards" section . A match between two losing semifinalists will be held to determine the team which will be given the FIE ranking points as third and fourth places.
  4. Very good results in term of Olympic qualification, specially because China finished 4th. now Iran has 24pts lead over China. it will be really hard for them to make up for that. they need podium finish in World Cup or WCh which is really hard (not impossible though) but we were also close for the first ever team gold medal in the Asian Championship. it was close before the penultimate match where Abdeini blew it. still it was good to lose to Korea only 45-42. maybe next time PS: I said this before, just for the record, in Asia they award two bronze medals even in team events. the 3rd medal match is only for ranking points.
  5. Abedini finally beat his old rival Gu Bon-gil (lost to him twice in Asian Games QF) but then he lost to the Chinese guy in semifinal who also beat Fotouhi in QF. also Pakdaman lost to Korea #4 Ha in QF just 15-14. it could 3 out of 4 in the semifinal but ... this is Abedini's 17th medal in Asian Championships !! unfortunately all of them silver and bronze. let's hope they focus on the team event. the possible matchup between Iran and China in SF will be key for the Olympic qualification.
  6. Bulgaria at 90s wasn't only about Sotichkov, yes people mostly remember that Bulgaria by Stoichkov's fantastic free kicks but I'm quite sure I can still remember the name of most of Bulgaria 94 team members (almost all of the starters) without googling. and that Lechkov's header was one of the best football moments I remember 1994 World Cup was the first one I watched completely , I remember few things from 1990 WC but not much ( and watching a tournament few years later doesn't help you to create memories). and Bulgaria was involved in most of my memories from that WC (from Yekini tears or Mexican guy Bernal breaking the post). because of that Bulgaria was always one of my favorite football NTs, pity the results were never any good after that. but losing to Kosovo
  7. what a drama Korea-Senegal QF. Korea equalized in 90+7 minute. then took the lead but Senegal did the same in 120th minute. and penalties were full of drama. we have Korea, Ecuador and Italy in semifinal. those 3 names together comes one name to my mind. Byron Moreno !
  8. China in the final in every single women's Kumite class I wonder if they improved A LOT or they had outside help ! not a bad tournament for Iran, 4 in the final and so many for the bronze. but once again this is not really going to help our Olympic chance to win medals by different athletes. for example I never heard of this 67kg finalist Ali Karimi !
  9. and who deserved to win exactly ? I assume you know scores in TKD are based on electronic system and not human. as far as I remember Hashem had just one or two points receiving from the human refs (Lee had much more) if someone can complain about the officiating that wouldn't be Lee DH for sure. and he also destroyed the Olympic champion Zhao in semifinal. he beat two of his other opponents (Brecic and the American guy) by 20pts gap. and in the final he was leading from the start to finish. I don't know what else he could do to "deserves the win"
  10. finally Lee Dae-hoon lost to an Iranian athlete for the first time in his career. to Mirhashem Hosseini in the final. Hosseini was the same guy UK denied visa for the World Championship. now he proved he was really a gold medal candidate. while it was a very good result for him, still he needs to win the rest of remaining Grand Prix to qualify for the Olympics almost mission impossible. there will be no chance for him if we qualify two athletes via ranking (which is very possible now) but if that was up to me I would withdraw one of those quotas to make room for Mirhashem. Mardani also won the bronze at +80kg. as usual he was painful to watch. he was lucky with the draw to win a bronze here.
  11. I prefer to simply forget that 4th set (and those wasted match points) and looking at the bright side, losing 3-2 to Brazil is a very good result
  12. it happens everywhere. just a common thing in wrestling, mostly in Greco-Roman because the criteria for passivity cautions isn't that clear so they think they can make the referee's mind by shouting Red/Blue passive for the entire 6 minutes. it's not like they really believe they deserve a caution or not. they start shouting "passive" after probably 20-30 seconds into the match. in Asia, they usually use bigger stadiums, so you usually only hear two coaches around the mat shouting that, but from what I see in Europe, most of the time the other team members are right behind the judge and you hear something like 20-30 persons even make a song with that "Red pa-ssive, red pa-ssive, red pa-ssive " damn I would want to punch all of them as you know each wrestler can have two coaches near the mat, one of the sitting right next to the mat and the other one 2-3 meters far from the mat. for Iranian coaches, usually one of them gives technical advice (again, non-stop for the entire 6 minutes) and the other one's responsibility is to just shout red/blue passive ! it's always fun for me to watch those matches in livestream where you can hear the coaches, most of them Iranian coaches say funny things but sometimes that "passive passive" chant make it impossible to hear what they are saying. another reason why I hate it
  13. Iran's Youth Olympics Gold medalist Navid Mohammadi died today morning in a car accident at the age of 18 this week in general was tragic for our Karate, Fatemeh Chalaki , two times Asian Games bronze medalist and multiple times Premiere League medalists had another serious car accident and she will most probably lose one of her eyes we won't see her on Tatami anymore.
  14. the most annoying thing watching wrestling is hearing coaches (and other team members) constantly shouting "Red Passive" or "Blue Passive" I wonder if that really has affects on the refs or not. (i highly doubt that) but if that was up to me I would ban that word "Passive" in the stadium
  15. not sure where you read that but that's 100% wrong. the judicial system in Iran is terrible for other reasons but if they want to "kill" someone for homosexuality they don't need excuse, there is death penalty for that but they just don't want to use it, they were told to simply ignore that. even if you go to the court and insist you are gay, they will say he is crazy, let him go. they mostly consider homosexuality as "illness" not crime. sometimes it's amazing for me how people have a completely wrong image about my country. because of that sometimes it's hard for Iranian sport federations to hire foreign coaches, of course all of them changed their mind after coming to Iran. btw I'm not defending anything, I hate so many things about the current regime in Iran, just explaining the situation.
  16. that's bad but still just ignoring a community is different than hunting and killing them. yes studies are non-existant about this matter in Iran but I can imagine even if there are suicide, that's because their parents/family don't accepting them. not really because of the government. but you tell me how many parents in USA can "easily" accept their children being gay ? the same problem here. probably just more. nobody cares about what government thinks as long as they don't act.
  17. as far as I know not a single person got killed in Iran for being gay. at least not in recent history. yes that's within the rules but never applied (intentionally) and that's there just to prevent people from being publicly gay.
  18. that's exactly true at least in Baseball each team score in each innings after each other, it's not like one team has to score for a long time first and then they switch. and I think we really have different taste in sports because Hockey is also in bottom of my list It's not just because those sports don't exist here, Rugby, Curling and Biathlon for example don't exist in Iran and I still like to watch them.
  19. Really ? I didn't know that. they speak about Cricket like they have this sport for a century
  20. Is there any database for athletes involved in doping in past ? I was checking some old news and here it says there were 10 positive cases for the 2017 AIMAG https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1069026/wrestling-biggest-culprit-with-more-than-half-of-doping-test-failures-at-ashgabat-2017 the report says 6 in wresting, 2 in Jujitsu, 1 in Sambo and 1 in Kickboxing. here I can see 4 wrestlers, Ahmed Salah Al-Jamie (IRQ), Rejepaly Orazalyyev (TKM), Gulnar Hayytvavyeva (TKM) and Dinara Hallyyeva (TKM) here, 1 athlete in Kickboxing, Muhammet Altybayew (TKM) and here, 1 in Sambo, Zhamalbek Asylbek Uulu (KGZ) still 2 more wrestlers (most probably traditional wrestlers) missing and 2 in Jujitsu. I couldn't find them myself , a bit harder than usual since they are non-Olympic sports . I checked JJIF website and their sanctioned athletes list is too short and nobody from AIMAG is there. I hope someone can help me here.
  21. why ? yeah they cheat sometimes, and to be honest most of the time when they host. but they are nice and hard working people in general. actually sometimes I even support them when they don't host. but I have to say my favorite East Asian country is Japan.
  22. well there are some stupid people here in my country that enjoy to generalize and call them all "Arab countries" which is shameful but I know well enough about all countries in the region and to me it's just Saudi Arabia and it has nothing to do with politics. I usually even support athletes from Egypt, Tunisia, Kuwait and Oman (Bahrain was in my list before they start buying athletes left and right) Iran and Egypt has no political relationships for decades (for a stupid reason though) but I can say for example Mohamed Salah is VERY popular here. it's not about politics. I really don't want to go further because If I do I have to say some not-good things about the country in general.
  23. Can't you guess yourself ? Saudi Arabia and if you wonder why. (but I guess you don't lol ) if you check an Iranian sport forum, they usually use the word "Sauding" instead of bribing. just to give you an idea why I (and almost everybody else here) don't like them.
  24. Reading your passionate posts here made me watching a match today between our neighbors Pakistan vs England and after 10 minutes my reaction was "oh no thanks, this is not my taste" btw since we almost share the same language with Afghanistan, I can read their websites and Cricket is a huge huge sport there and also in Pakistan. (we even had street celebrations in Afghanistan when they beat Pakistan in a test match before the World Cup) but the biggest sport in two of our biggest neighbor countries almost doesn't even exist in my country. not that I'm complaining
  25. for some reasons I don't know I always support Italy when they don't face Iranian teams. I even have a relatively good knowledge about the Italian sport in general (obviously not as good as Italian users but still) beside that I usually support the underdog, I also mostly support other Asian countries except just one
