  1. Very imbalanced women's draw. I'm not surprised, FINA's procedure for this was quite dumb. I mean Brazil in Pot 2 and Italy in Pot 3, seriously?! Also in addition to Russia, China will also be missing. I didn't notice until now. Both of our teams should have no issues reaching QF, as usual.
  2. Thank you! Yes, the first gold medal for Greek RG in 20 years (2002 World Championships). Are our girls improved, or they only won because of the low level of competition? I know Bulgaria isn't the same team that won Olympic gold, but it would be nice for us to do well again after our OG participations got worse every time. 2000: Bronze 2004: 5th 2008: 9th 2012: 9th 2016: 13th 2020: Didn't qualify
  3. Sorry I meant to say that, his main event is 200 IM which is why I made that typo And yes I know it is nothing special for others, but for us it is crazy to see how many NRs have been broken in the past few years from these swimmers. Just in the past year we've had new NRs in 12 events in the 50m pools.
  4. (men) and (women) to replace Russia at the European Championships. In other words, two teams from the "same country" @hckošice
  5. She has the Portuguese flag in her Instagram bio, and the Hellenic Olympic Committee unfollowed her on Instagram. She is living in Ireland now and coaching there to make money to fund her career (at least in Greece she was given some funding even if it may have been inadequate), and she allegedly represented Cote d'Ivoire at a regatta in Portugal recently. Apparently if she wants to represent Portugal in major international competitions, she has to sit out for three years so she would miss the 2024 Olympics unless ISAF makes an exception for her. Honestly this situation has been blown way out of proportion. The Hellenic Sailing Federation made plenty of mistakes, but Karachaliou is also stubborn and in some ways unreasonable for not cooperating with the Hellenic Olympic Committee when they were trying to solve these problems. Of course it is easy for me to talk when I do not know what goes on behind the scenes, but still... The issue is now she burnt her bridges with Greece, and if she comes back and decides to stay with Greece so she can go to Paris 2024, she might be treated worse than before, and also the sponsor that the Hellenic Olympic Committee got for her (which also unfollowed her) probably won't be willing to sponsor her again.
  6. Big Greek NR in the men's 200 IM from Andreas Vazaios in Stockholm. He swam 1:46.94, the previous record was from him with 1:47.48 at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest. Kind of cool to see these Greek swimmers in their mid-late 20s like Vazaios, Gkolomeev, Ntountounaki, Christou continue to improve and have long careers in a sport where it is not uncommon for athletes to retire at young ages
  7. I'm a bit surprised, our girls won bronze in Sydney 2000 and that group had also won medals at the World Championships back then (I think gold too)
  8. So once again Georgiadou and Gkountoura can't both qualify in the women's sabre I hope Georgiadou makes it this time as she didn't get the chance to go to Tokyo. She's currently top 10 so it would be a shame for her to once again not even have the opportunity to go. Plus Gkountoura is much younger and will have more chances after Paris (plus she already went to Tokyo).
  9. @phelps Elisa Mondelli is the sister of Filippo?
  10. Anastasia - Amarties This song is very popular in Greece right now, it was released less than three months ago and already has over 16 million views (for Greek songs those are very good statistics). I hope everyone here enjoys this song as much as we do
  11. LEN Euro League Women - Final: Olympiacos 11 - 7 CN Sabadell
  12. LEN Euro League Women - Final: Olympiacos 11 - 7 CN Sabadell Second consecutive title for Olympiacos and third overall They now have the most Euro League titles of any Greek team, as Glyfada and Vouliagmeni each won only twice. Also revenge for Olympiacos after losing to Sabadell in the 2019 final. 21 yo Maria Myriokefalitaki was the hero of the final with 3 goals
  14. Do not underestimate the ability of the referees to "help" Qatar
  15. LEN Euro League Women - Final Four: Olympiacos 18 - 11 UVSE Olympiacos into the final for the third year in a row! Hopefully they win their second title in a row. Between the three Plevritou sisters, Eleftheriadou, Xenaki, and Myriokefalitaki, things are looking good for the Greek national team, especially now that they are a little older and more experienced
  16. Sorry if it was mentioned before, but the women's marathon will be on the final day of competition instead of the men's marathon
  17. Unfortunately Prevolaraki lost in the final and ends with silver. So at European Championships she has 4 silvers and 2 bronze. I don't know if she'll ever get a better chance to win gold I want to consider her the best Greek female wrestler ever, but Sofia Poumpouridou won gold at both the World and European Championships. Even though Prevolaraki has far more total medals, she doesn't have gold in either. Poumpouridou only went to the Olympics once though and ended her career earlier. Prevolaraki has already been to the Olympics 3x and if she makes Paris then that would be the 4th one.
  18. I guess I should follow the NCAAs due to the large participation of Greek national team members Ohio State (Kyridou sisters), Washington (Tsamopoulou), Yale (Bourmpou) and Texas (Christodoulidis) seem to be among the best teams. Michigan State (Agioti), Oklahoma (Pergouli) and Tulsa (Mitsi and Lamprianidou) also have Greeks. I know that Christodoulidis was in the boat with Texas that won last year. Tsamopoulou won it a previous year with Washington (Asoumanaki who finished 4th in Rio W2X was also on that team but she graduated). Strangely there aren't many Greek men in NCAA, mostly just women.
  19. I'm surprised that nobody mentioned it, rowing will start after the Opening Ceremony. In Tokyo, it started before it (single sculls heats).
  20. It's too bad Nigeria didn't qualify, I wonder if they would've been in the same group with Argentina for the 27838873784th time
  21. Maria Prevolaraki is into the final in 53kg This will be her 6th European medal (she already has 3 silver and 2 bronze). She also has 2 bronze from World Championships. It would be really nice for her to finally win a gold medal and this will be a great chance for her without any Russians. She has golds from the 2020 World Cup (which was basically the World Championships for that year), and twice from the Mediterranean Games but I think this would be her most important medal. Also quite sad that she has been to the Olympics three times already and her best result was 10th place. I really hope she can change that in Paris because she said it will be her last Olympics. She is still only 30 but it feels like she's been around forever, probably because she has been our only female wrestler really in the last 15 years. I worry that women's wrestling in Greece will be completely dead after 2024, although maybe the success of our young guys can inspire something.
  22. I'm sorry, but it is kind of annoying to see so many people here winning medals for countries that they are not from Thank you for all of this. Your knowledge of some of these sports is really incredible I believe Pilidis said it on the show and then when he left the show and went back to "normal life," people wanted answers including the Greek and European Wrestling Federations, and from what I remember (like I said I haven't completely followed the story and don't know all of the facts) he either tried to pretend he didn't say it or wouldn't give clear answers. It was a big story in Greece a couple months ago, and he recently gave an interview saying that his relationship with the federation was very bad both before and after his appearances on Survivor. That they used to make the youth wrestlers pay from their families money in order to be in the national team and travel abroad for competitions, and that they didn't want to bring his coach to Tokyo or that they didn't want to pay for that or something. Pilidis said his goal was to win a medal in Paris, so of course he will say that. No one says after already going to the Olympics once at 21 yo that "my goal is to finish top 8 at the next Olympics" or something . Normally we wouldn't invest in him although I think he will receive a lot of sponsors. Unfortunately it is not because of his wrestling achievements and gold medals in youth categories. The only reason he will receive sponsors is because he became known to the Greek public through competing on Survivor and the viewers of the show loved him, and everyone knows that the reason he went to the show was for money to support his wrestling career even if it meant sacrificing his 2022 season.
  23. Σειρά έχει ο Ολυμπιακός (LEN Euro League, όπως πέρυσι)
  24. So Ioanna and Stefania are both back in Greece (the country where they were born and raised until age 17) and playing for Greek club teams again, but Stefania plays for the US national team (okay, she always wins gold medals so I can understand). Why not Ioanna though? She's never been called up to the US national team, she was a member of Greece's women's senior team from when she was a teenager and won gold at the World Youth Championships. There is no reason for her to not be playing for our national team anymore
