  1. What about Zhou and Chen? Let's also not forget that Boyang and Uno are only 2 years older ... Would be cool if Samohin could win a medal for Israel some time, don't think they won many medals at winter olympics before.
  2. Ok, thanks, now i understand why i picked Fernandez. Of course Hanyu winning gold would make me very happy, i hope he will be able to forgive me for not believing in him.
  3. The medallists should be thankful that the german coach rested Thomas Bing for the relay, otherwise it would have been very close.
  4. I think this event/format is very boring. Also very sad that Spitsov won a medal, i am sure he was a good talent, but before the olympics he wasn't nearly on the same level.
  5. Do you know the course? If there would be a large hill from 7.5 to 9.8 km for example this would make sense. Is there any other reason why the intermediates shouldn't be something like 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5?
  6. I thought the logical podium would be Hanyu ahead of Fernandez and Uno, but i just saw that i predicted Fernandez ahead of Hanyu and Chen ... what a blackout, i feel really sorry for myself. Didn't Fernandez just come back from an injury? Why did i predict him to win gold ahead of Hanyu, although Hanyu is by far my favorite figure skater?
  7. Now that you say it ... The gold in men's luge was surprising, as well as the bronze in men's biathlon, the bronze in nordic combined and the two medals today (although of course Mayer winning a medal would have been no surprise). Negative results so far: Snowboard women's slopestyle, that's probably it? Medals in ski jumping or speed skating weren't really expected. Let's hope that Flock won't continue the trend ...
  8. It's already safe that she won't start ... http://www.espn.com/olympics/winter18/story/_/id/22450731/mikaela-shiffrin-skip-super-g-compressed-schedule Note the first line: Michael Shiffrin's bid for 5 gold medals ...
  9. Ok, nothing new. I see that Hanyu is running away with the gold as expected? I think my prediction was Hanyu ahead of Fernandez and Uno. Chan, Aliev and Boyang might have a problem with that.
  10. Medal for Brazil! Also crazy gold for Italy, they are the second biggest positive surprise at the olympics behind only Sweden.
  11. Of course Gallhuber got lucky with the wind, but she showed absolutely no fear, so she deserved some reward.
  12. Jacobellis flopped again? Can't say i am surprised. Chen out of the medal race? I think i predicted bronze for him, not sure ...
  13. You are really good at seeing the negativ in everything. Absolutely noone expected two medals for Austria today.
  14. I feel sorry for anyone who slept through this, most amazing race of the season and easily top 3 at the olympics so far. Great podium, although i hoped for a Holdener win. Swedish people are probably crying 24/7 this week, once in a century olympics for them, also very nice to see that Austria is still alive. Shiffrin already has a gold + probably another one in the combined, so she will get over it. This means that there are still only 4 women who defended their olympic title, none did it in the slalom.
  15. I think we all agree that in skeleton/bob/luge the material and experience on a certain track is much more important than in other sports. I think that Germany, despite probably having a technical advantage, winning 8 out of 11 golds at the last 3 olympics deserves some credit. In bob and skeleton the home athletes were much more successful.
  16. I don't think you can call it a fact ... If the olympics would have been held in north korea, south korea probably also would have "created" him. Of course giving the olympics to north korea might seem a bit unlikely, but with IOC you never know. South Korea is very good in shorttrack, so they might have thought about giving the olympics to north korea to advance the sport of shorttrack there and to make it a more diverse sport.
  17. Very clever to lose weight right ahead of the race, probably copied it from the wrestlers and boxers.
  18. Yes, but i don't expect her to win a medal. As long as Weirather wins gold, i don't care much about the rest.
  19. I think there is a rather simple explanation: If you want to be good in the slalom, it's very hard to be also top in any other disciplines (maybe except for the giant slalom), but if you are top in the giant slalom, it's easier to be also top in the two speed disciplines, so it seems only smart to not concentrate on slalom. I used to think that this diminishes Shiffrin's legacy, but with her improvements in downhill, super-g and giant slalom that changed. Everyone sees that she is not a generational slalom talent, but a generational alpine skiing talent.
  20. Immediately? I think it was pretty clear that he wouldn't go for another olympics, so after this olympics probably might be the best time. At least that openes up the way for Neureuther to win 2022 olympic gold in the slalom.
  21. What i just thought about: Could this be the first time since 1984 that Austria will finish with only one individual medallist and without an individual medal on the women's side? Also interesting: Mikaela Shiffrin could become the 5th woman to defend her olympic title and the first to do so in the slalom. The previous 4 were Janica Kostelic (alpine combined 2002/2006), Maria Höfl-Riesch (alpine combined 2010/2014), Katja Seizinger (downhill gold 1994/1998), Deborah Compagnoni (giant slalom gold 1994/1998). By doing this research i also realized that many people might underestimate Janica Kostelic and Katja Seizingern. Katja Seizinger retired at the age of 27, after winning 3 olympic golds, 2 olympic bronze medals, 2 overall world cup titles and 11 crytal globes in total. Janica Kostelic retired at the age of 25, after winning 4 olympic golds, 2 olympic silver medals, 3 overall world cup titles and 10 crytal globes in total.
  22. So you mean in general, not today? Does this mean that they only predicted one medal for Italy in biathlon and alpine skiing?
  23. Didn't know that, never considered him a medal contender, but of course i also thought that Kramer would medal ... I think all 3 medallists will be gone in 2022, so he might win gold then, of course unless this event gets scratched.
  24. I think before today the expectation should have been: Medal in snowboard cross (possibly gold) Medal in biathlon women's 15 km So i think you won the expected number of medals, but not in the expected disciplines. I think tonight's super-g might be a better medal chance than yesterday's downhill.
  25. What do you mean with "though Italy did win a medal in both sports"? I stopped watching when it was Boe ahead of Fak and Landertinger at the finish, did an italian athlete overtake one of them?
