  1. Yes, but i don't expect her to win a medal. As long as Weirather wins gold, i don't care much about the rest.
  2. I think there is a rather simple explanation: If you want to be good in the slalom, it's very hard to be also top in any other disciplines (maybe except for the giant slalom), but if you are top in the giant slalom, it's easier to be also top in the two speed disciplines, so it seems only smart to not concentrate on slalom. I used to think that this diminishes Shiffrin's legacy, but with her improvements in downhill, super-g and giant slalom that changed. Everyone sees that she is not a generational slalom talent, but a generational alpine skiing talent.
  3. Immediately? I think it was pretty clear that he wouldn't go for another olympics, so after this olympics probably might be the best time. At least that openes up the way for Neureuther to win 2022 olympic gold in the slalom.
  4. What i just thought about: Could this be the first time since 1984 that Austria will finish with only one individual medallist and without an individual medal on the women's side? Also interesting: Mikaela Shiffrin could become the 5th woman to defend her olympic title and the first to do so in the slalom. The previous 4 were Janica Kostelic (alpine combined 2002/2006), Maria Höfl-Riesch (alpine combined 2010/2014), Katja Seizinger (downhill gold 1994/1998), Deborah Compagnoni (giant slalom gold 1994/1998). By doing this research i also realized that many people might underestimate Janica Kostelic and Katja Seizingern. Katja Seizinger retired at the age of 27, after winning 3 olympic golds, 2 olympic bronze medals, 2 overall world cup titles and 11 crytal globes in total. Janica Kostelic retired at the age of 25, after winning 4 olympic golds, 2 olympic silver medals, 3 overall world cup titles and 10 crytal globes in total.
  5. So you mean in general, not today? Does this mean that they only predicted one medal for Italy in biathlon and alpine skiing?
  6. Didn't know that, never considered him a medal contender, but of course i also thought that Kramer would medal ... I think all 3 medallists will be gone in 2022, so he might win gold then, of course unless this event gets scratched.
  7. I think before today the expectation should have been: Medal in snowboard cross (possibly gold) Medal in biathlon women's 15 km So i think you won the expected number of medals, but not in the expected disciplines. I think tonight's super-g might be a better medal chance than yesterday's downhill.
  8. What do you mean with "though Italy did win a medal in both sports"? I stopped watching when it was Boe ahead of Fak and Landertinger at the finish, did an italian athlete overtake one of them?
  9. Thank you! Germany is indeed underperforming, today was an absolutely disaster, so many missed medal chances.
  10. Visintin might have been the favorite for gold, but who else was among the top 3 gold medal favorites?
  11. Thanks, didn't know Giotto trained in Canada too. Does he train with Bloemen?
  12. Very sad, i hoped for a medal for Russia. Germany just too dominant, i think we need new events to break the german dominance. What about mixed doubles, men's relay (like team relay, but only with men's singles), women's relay (like team relay, but only with women's singles)?
  13. You mean giant slalom? There was a certain medal chance, but not giant.
  14. What do you mean? Did you consider Giotto a medal contender?
  15. Bloemen is already 31 years old, so this was probably his only chance for an olympic gold, good way to retire. Gonna be interesting to see which dutch athlete Canada will naturalize next. There must be some other dutch athlete who would be willing to switch nationality for not being able to make the dutch team.
  16. The Netherlands saw that Germany was about to win the medal table, so they sent Bloemen to Canada to help them stopping Germany.
  17. Congrats to the italian guy, he probably can't believe it himself. Crazy day for them, nobody expected anything, but they won 2 medals already.
  18. Very good result! Enough is enough, Sweden will hopefully stop fluking medals here, it's not good for the sport.
  19. Bloemen looks really creepy. Sweep for the Netherlands. Is there any other olympic event, where 1/4 of the participants are from the same country?
  20. He didn't seem worried to me to be honest ... You really have a talent at abusing other people's comments by writing something completely unrelated as an answer, just to force your own views on other people. Doesn't seem like the best way to communicate for me.
  21. You think that the top 3 are dirty? Why do you exclude Preuß, only because she was so slow today?
  22. Happy for the vampire and the italian girl, very sad about Shiffrin winning a medal. Hirscher on the men's side and Shiffrin on the women's side, very boring, but not their fault. The two best athletes of the season not winning a medal is very sad, but they have only themselves to blame. I almost had the feeling as if Rebensburg didn't know that this was the olympics, she had absolutely no aggression. I hoped that Hrovat would win a medal, but she isn't ready for now. Bassino also seems to be stuck, not much of a progression recently.
  23. Very sad day for fans of clean sport. Hope that WADA does it's job, Dahlmeier still on her way to sweep the golds.
  24. I agree, at the last two olympics she came for gold with her former partner but only got bronze and after 2014 her partner retired everyone thought that she should retire as well, but she always had the dream of winning gold of the olympics, so she continued and they had to find a new partner for her. After yesterday's result everyone thought that they had no chance of winning gold and many said that "Bruno (her partner) destroyed her dream". What made the situation today especially tense is that her former partner is now coaching the russian pair that could have taken away the gold from her. First she couldn't win a gold with him as her partner and then he takes the gold from her away by coaching her rivals, would have been a crazy story. You could really see today how much pressure they put on themselves and now she can retire in peace. It will be interesting what he will do, he is still very young, but i think there is no chance that they will find a world-class partner for him in Germany ...
  25. Amazing day for Norway, today they strike back! Germany already with 8 golds, same as at the end of Sochi!
