  1. Hm, maybe you are right about the "4th on paper" part, Czech Republic and Sweden also have very good teams after all, but i don't get the other part of your comment. So if you are 4th on paper, you are likely to win a medal? Then what would you call the top 3 on paper, a lock to win a medal? Guess it depends on your definition of likely, but i would say likely = clearly more than 50% and i don't think that Italy had clearly more than 50% to medal.
  2. Nice to know, for me most of the most hilarious moments of these Olympics come from looking at your results in the prediction contests and then comparing them to your "mister know-it-all" behavior in most of the threads whenever a surprising result happens. Didn't you earn enough money with your bets already to just retire and buy some island in the caribics? After the end of every competition, you always knew the outcome, it's almost like magic ...
  3. I would call it embarrassing by you, but maybe we need an expert ... 1) I never doubted that France had depth, just not as much as Germany. 2) She won a medal in a relay ... if you would have switched her for any of the 6 german female athletes here, it is still very likely that France would have won gold, it didn't have much to do with her being in such a good shape, it was all about Fourcade. 3) Could you be any less concrete than that? "likely not selected", "in less than two months" ... did France select it's team before christmas or why the drama? 12 years ago Denise Herrmann also wouldn't have been selected, so if Germany wins the women's relay, this would be a huge sensation, because at some point in her life, Denise Herrmann was in danger of not being selected ... Franziska Preuß only qualified at the last world cup for the olympics, but if she wins gold with the relay, noone would seriously freak out about how big of an achievement that is. In general it's just sad how immature many members of this forum are. If you don't agree with someone, quote him and try to lead a proper discussion, otherwise just shut up. If those people can't even discuss with people "face to face" on here, how do they ever plan to lead a proper discussion in "real life".
  4. Very bad for my predictions in the bet contest ... Would have prefered gold and silver here + gold in biathlon, which also would have been more deserved, but sadly i can't change it.
  5. Of course it's the incorrect decision, but after everything we have seen here, it's not surprising. In the end i am happy for Italy, because getting bronze here would have actually been worse for me as a fan, because this would have reminded me forever at that race when looking at the medal table, a 4th place will be forgotten much easier. Italians seem to be really happy about this very surprising medal, so i think it's better that fans who appreciate this medal "get" it, instead of fans who will never be happy about this medal. Dahlmeier and Peiffer already have gold, Hinz will get hers in the women's relay, so i am only sad for Lesser, who probably will end his career without an olympic gold.
  6. Really, i think that's complete nonsense, but ok. Their depth is probably the reason why apart from Fourcade so many of their athletes won individual medals here ... I think a relay of Herrmann, Preuß, Schempp, Doll would be comfortably better than the second french relay, in the end Fourcade was the only reason why they came close (and eventually won) the gold.
  7. Of course Italy will get disqualified, but the bronze is pretty worthless anyway, anything but gold is, Germany clearly has the best depth in biathlon, but one good athlete was enough for France.
  8. Bronze is a horrible result for Germany here. Peiffer completely fucked it up.
  9. Good position for the germans and Watabe, very likely that Norway will end this without individual medal.
  10. She ended it before in 2006 ... so maybe we will see her again?
  11. Surprised to see Peiffer and Lesser in the relay and not Schempp. Hinz is understandable, i think she is a better choice than Hammerschmidt or Hildebrand. Preuß might be a bit better at shooting but slower in cross-country. Herrmann is of course better at cross-country, but also much worse at shooting.
  12. Very sad that this wardrobe malfunction cost the french pair the gold, but they are young, so they will have at least 2 more chances. For me this is clearly the most boring figure skating competition, but that's probably just me.
  13. Kakhi Kakhiasvili seems to be one, although he won 3 olympic golds in a row, but the first one was for the Unified Team in 1992 and not for Greece. Pyrros Dimas won gold in 1992, 1996 and 2000, but in 2004 he won only bronze at home. Don't know if this counts, because in 1996 he won gold in the -83 kg category, but in 2000 he won gold in the -85 kg category and in 2004 he won bronze there. Jackie Joyner-Kersee won gold in 1988 and 1992 but not 1996 in the heptathlon. I think the same happened to Janet Evans in women's 800 m free at 1996 olympics. Nikolay Andrianov won gold at the floor in 1972 and 1976 but not in 1980 (he won gold in other events, so don't know if it counts). There are probably some more, but no i am tired.
  14. Wasn't the question which athletes didn't win gold at their home olympics after winning gold at the TWO PREVIOUS olympics? I am surprised that this seems to be that hard, you open one list with the athletes who won multiple gold medals at the olympics and one with the host cities of the olympics. I would like to do it myself, but currently i don't have much free time, but that will change from thursday onwards, so if noone has the answer by then, i will do it. If there would be a list with athletes who defended their olympic gold, this would become considerably easier.
  15. Breaking the all-time record doesn't mean much, it would make more sense to look at a medal/event ratio, because there were clearly less events in the past.
  16. Germany will hopefully take Norway as an example. A country with such a small population suddenly being that good in speed skating and distance running + of course their dominance in cross-country leaves no room for interpretation. It can't be that hard to throw shitloads of money at some norwegian coach to finally figure out what substance/method they are using.
  17. I think we can officially congratulate Norway for winning the medal table. There is no way in hell that Germany can still beat them and i don't really see any other country doing it, maybe Canada if they win 4 or 5 golds in ice hockey and curling?
  18. Only winning 1 medal isn't much better. Overall another dreadful day. Norway winning another surprising gold, while Germany can't even win the safe gold medals. I hope that people who have something to say in german sport will accept that they have to do a much better job during the next 4 years, especially in sports where there are 1000 medals for basically the same skillset (cross-country and speed skating). Maybe the more recent results showed everyone that you have to be doped to the gills in those sports to win anything, so they will finally start to do the same. Germany was at the top about a decade ago (Cross-country: Angerer, Teichmann, Sommerfeldt, speed skating: Friesinger, Wolf, Niemann-Stirnemann), so they can't have forgotten how to be good in those sports.
  19. Another disgusting result, thank god i couldn't watch this. After the last couple of years, this is an absolutely shocking result, almost as bad as 4 years ago.
  20. Yeah, of course ... based on you constantly crying about Wellinger winning the first competition, it was completely obvious that you were joking. "... you must be very sad person ..." ... yeah, that sounds like someone who is ready to lead a calm discussion. Your last point is complete nonsense anyway, it doesn't matter whether i am completely calm or completely furious right now, i gave an argument and you weren't willing to discuss, blaming it on me being angry, which is of course an easy way to escape a discussion. Sadly you aren't willing to discuss, so it will probably remain a mystery forever, but i'd still like to ask what "... you should be happy for this gold ..." is supposed to mean? Are you saying that i should be happy about Stoch winning gold or what? The "... and judges points ..." part is a complete mystery as well to me. You are hinting something but then don't follow up on it in any way, so what exactly is your point? Right after i claim that Stoch got overscored, you suddenly come up with the idea that Wellinger got overscored as well? So basically your strategy to counter my argument is just saying the same i said about Stoch but now about Wellinger? Very creative indeed ... I will never understand how any polish fan can cry about an athlete of an other nation getting lucky with the wind in this season, given how lucky Stoch got at the 4-hills tournament (unlike you i even used actual data to support my claim), of course Stoch/Hula not winning a medal on the normal hill also had nothing to do with the wind, i gave proof earlier, so i won't say the same over and over again, but Wellinger jumped 113.5 m to win the gold in the second round, although even 109 m very likely would have been enough to win the gold, so he was just better than anyone else that day. Stoch won the gold by about 3 points on a LARGE HILL while Wellinger won by about 8 points on a NORMAL HILL, but yeah, it was Wellinger's victory that was lucky ...
  21. Did "we" really struggle to get enough suggestions? I think i posted enough suggestions already + i think this was only a problem in certain sports that are not very popular + why not just cut it to 20 or 30 questions (i don't think that it would make any sense to have more questions for a single sports event anyway, otherwise you will probably end up with questions like "how many players of Saudi Arabia will wear pink shoes in their match against Russia")?
  22. Wow ... brilliant response ... Didn't think that anyone would be able to misunderstand my comment, but apparently i expected too much. Stoch "won't be there in 4 years" to fight for the medals, hope that clarifies it for you (he won't be around so to say). My problem is that his landing was rather bad and for sure no 19 or even 19.5. Some athletes (for example Ammann) will always get worse points for the same landing than others (for example Stoch). I absolutely don't think that he deserved 19 or 19.5, but i have no proof that the judges deliberatly gave him scores that were too high, so it is just my opinion based on what i saw. It wasn't a clean telemark in my opinion. In order to prevent you from misunderstanding it again: I think Stoch deserved 18, maybe 18.5, which still might have been enough for gold. Wellinger had very good conditions in the second round, so there is no doubt that Wellinger and Stoch were pretty much on the same level, either one could have won yesterday. Also i didn't intend to say that Stoch's landings in general are at the same level as those of Ammann, Stoch might even have the best landings in general and the polish athletes are clearly better at producing a telemark at big distances than the german athletes, who had very shaky landings very often this season.
  23. Yes that is true, Biedermann would have never won gold without the suits or even set the world records, i don't think i quiet understand what you are trying to say?
  24. Lee had a small mistake and Erbanova seemed to be in pretty good shape recently, so not completely shocking i would say. Of course i wouldn't have thought that before the race, but Erbanova is pretty much where she was expected to be compared to Herzog for example. Only a bit surprised that Go wasn't faster.
  25. I am not surprised about this result. German team is stupid enough to play fair, but that's normally not how to win. When Fourcade cheated with his ammunition and stole the mass start world cup from Schempp, the german team didn't even protest. Today Fourcade switches the lane to block Schempp at the latest possible moment. It wasn't illegal, but certainly unfair and he got rewarded with the gold. In general i have the feeling that german athletes and coaches are just too stupid. For example i honestly believe that the people in power in german swimming or cross-country believe that it is possible to win medals without doping, they look completely clueless whenever Germany is lightyears behind the top nation, they just can't seem to explain why that is the case ...
