  1. I thought i'd post some of the definite answers of the bet contest, probably you already have most of it, but maybe it helps: 21- Johannes Thingnes Boe (NOR) will win more medals than Martin Fourcade (FRA) during the whole 2018 Winter Olympics. [NO] 25- The Ukrainian team will win more total medals than Italy. [NO] 29- Overall, medals will not go to more than 6 nations. [NO] 30- Swiss athletes will win more total medals than Olympic Athletes from Russia. [NO] 35- The italian men's team will win at least 2 games. [YES] 40- Dominique Ohaco (CHI) will achieve Chile's best ever Winter Olympic result - bettering 11th place in Men's Alpine Combined from 1998. [NO] 42- No athlete who was victorious at the 2018 Winter X Games will win a Gold Medal in Pyeongchang. [NO] 43- South Korea will win at least 1 medal, while Australia will win at least 3. [NO] 52- Germany will sweep (win Gold, Silver and Bronze) at least one of the individual events. [YES] 51- In both Individual events, the first-placed Athlete(s) after Ski Jumping will not win a Medal. [YES] 56- At least two athletes will win medals in both men's individual events. [YES] 55- Poland will win at least one gold medal. [YES]
  2. That's actually what i thought first ... they probably thought: She is from the US, americans are always good in sports like that, so she must be good as well. Let's just hope that they didn't really "buy" her, it probably would have been more hopeful to take one of those Shaolin guys in shorttrack and turn him into a freestyle skier.
  3. Ah ok, so you think she could have done better? Then it would be a different thing, but why exactly should she be so shitty on purpose? I think she embarrassed herself, so what did she gain by giving a performance like that?
  4. I am surprised that Canada didn't medal ... How did someone from B final win a medal? I think it's insane that you can win a medal from B final, in the end those in B final lost against those in A final, so in which universe does it make sense that they get a better result?
  5. I didn't watch the group match, but i heard that Germany was unlucky to lose that match, so is there a chance for a german victory tonight? I think Germany winning in ice hockey against Sweden would be a perfect fit for these olympics. When people in 20 years look back at the results here, they will probably be like "what the hell?" ...
  6. If you would apply the same tough criteria in every event, there probably wouldn't even be enough entrants to hold certain events. It's a fact that winter sports in general are much less competitive than summer sports, apart from a few exceptions. To be honest i also don't quiet get all the anger ... a) If she would have spent her whole life in Hungary, would people still be "mad"? No b) If she would have been from Tonga, would people still be "mad"? No We have those kind of competitors all the time at the summer olympics, but also in alpine skiing or cross-country, so what is the big problem? Did she take a spot away from someone? I think it's weird to blame her. Say you would have the chance to compete at the olympics tomorrow, would anyone here really turn that opportunity down? I don't think so ...
  7. I think it also says a lot about Hungary ... why did they allow her to do this? She never had any chance to medal, so how exactly does this "help" Hungary? I always thought that hungarian people are very "proud", so it's kind of weird to just hand the citizenship out like it's nothing (unless i missed something and she always had the citizenship, but that would still leave the question why Hungary nominated her).
  8. No way on earth that Jamanka won't crumble under the pressure, i still think Germany is safe to take a medal, not sure if it will be Jamanka though ...
  9. Hm, maybe you are right about the "4th on paper" part, Czech Republic and Sweden also have very good teams after all, but i don't get the other part of your comment. So if you are 4th on paper, you are likely to win a medal? Then what would you call the top 3 on paper, a lock to win a medal? Guess it depends on your definition of likely, but i would say likely = clearly more than 50% and i don't think that Italy had clearly more than 50% to medal.
  10. Nice to know, for me most of the most hilarious moments of these Olympics come from looking at your results in the prediction contests and then comparing them to your "mister know-it-all" behavior in most of the threads whenever a surprising result happens. Didn't you earn enough money with your bets already to just retire and buy some island in the caribics? After the end of every competition, you always knew the outcome, it's almost like magic ...
  11. I would call it embarrassing by you, but maybe we need an expert ... 1) I never doubted that France had depth, just not as much as Germany. 2) She won a medal in a relay ... if you would have switched her for any of the 6 german female athletes here, it is still very likely that France would have won gold, it didn't have much to do with her being in such a good shape, it was all about Fourcade. 3) Could you be any less concrete than that? "likely not selected", "in less than two months" ... did France select it's team before christmas or why the drama? 12 years ago Denise Herrmann also wouldn't have been selected, so if Germany wins the women's relay, this would be a huge sensation, because at some point in her life, Denise Herrmann was in danger of not being selected ... Franziska Preuß only qualified at the last world cup for the olympics, but if she wins gold with the relay, noone would seriously freak out about how big of an achievement that is. In general it's just sad how immature many members of this forum are. If you don't agree with someone, quote him and try to lead a proper discussion, otherwise just shut up. If those people can't even discuss with people "face to face" on here, how do they ever plan to lead a proper discussion in "real life".
  12. Very bad for my predictions in the bet contest ... Would have prefered gold and silver here + gold in biathlon, which also would have been more deserved, but sadly i can't change it.
  13. Of course it's the incorrect decision, but after everything we have seen here, it's not surprising. In the end i am happy for Italy, because getting bronze here would have actually been worse for me as a fan, because this would have reminded me forever at that race when looking at the medal table, a 4th place will be forgotten much easier. Italians seem to be really happy about this very surprising medal, so i think it's better that fans who appreciate this medal "get" it, instead of fans who will never be happy about this medal. Dahlmeier and Peiffer already have gold, Hinz will get hers in the women's relay, so i am only sad for Lesser, who probably will end his career without an olympic gold.
  14. Really, i think that's complete nonsense, but ok. Their depth is probably the reason why apart from Fourcade so many of their athletes won individual medals here ... I think a relay of Herrmann, Preuß, Schempp, Doll would be comfortably better than the second french relay, in the end Fourcade was the only reason why they came close (and eventually won) the gold.
  15. Of course Italy will get disqualified, but the bronze is pretty worthless anyway, anything but gold is, Germany clearly has the best depth in biathlon, but one good athlete was enough for France.
  16. Bronze is a horrible result for Germany here. Peiffer completely fucked it up.
  17. Good position for the germans and Watabe, very likely that Norway will end this without individual medal.
  18. She ended it before in 2006 ... so maybe we will see her again?
  19. Surprised to see Peiffer and Lesser in the relay and not Schempp. Hinz is understandable, i think she is a better choice than Hammerschmidt or Hildebrand. Preuß might be a bit better at shooting but slower in cross-country. Herrmann is of course better at cross-country, but also much worse at shooting.
  20. Very sad that this wardrobe malfunction cost the french pair the gold, but they are young, so they will have at least 2 more chances. For me this is clearly the most boring figure skating competition, but that's probably just me.
  21. Kakhi Kakhiasvili seems to be one, although he won 3 olympic golds in a row, but the first one was for the Unified Team in 1992 and not for Greece. Pyrros Dimas won gold in 1992, 1996 and 2000, but in 2004 he won only bronze at home. Don't know if this counts, because in 1996 he won gold in the -83 kg category, but in 2000 he won gold in the -85 kg category and in 2004 he won bronze there. Jackie Joyner-Kersee won gold in 1988 and 1992 but not 1996 in the heptathlon. I think the same happened to Janet Evans in women's 800 m free at 1996 olympics. Nikolay Andrianov won gold at the floor in 1972 and 1976 but not in 1980 (he won gold in other events, so don't know if it counts). There are probably some more, but no i am tired.
  22. Wasn't the question which athletes didn't win gold at their home olympics after winning gold at the TWO PREVIOUS olympics? I am surprised that this seems to be that hard, you open one list with the athletes who won multiple gold medals at the olympics and one with the host cities of the olympics. I would like to do it myself, but currently i don't have much free time, but that will change from thursday onwards, so if noone has the answer by then, i will do it. If there would be a list with athletes who defended their olympic gold, this would become considerably easier.
  23. Breaking the all-time record doesn't mean much, it would make more sense to look at a medal/event ratio, because there were clearly less events in the past.
  24. Germany will hopefully take Norway as an example. A country with such a small population suddenly being that good in speed skating and distance running + of course their dominance in cross-country leaves no room for interpretation. It can't be that hard to throw shitloads of money at some norwegian coach to finally figure out what substance/method they are using.
  25. I think we can officially congratulate Norway for winning the medal table. There is no way in hell that Germany can still beat them and i don't really see any other country doing it, maybe Canada if they win 4 or 5 golds in ice hockey and curling?
