  1. 2024 Paris Olympics schedule: Super Saturday finals set in gymnastics, swimming, track

They're already dubbing Day 8 as Super Saturday for the United States.  That day, we have (these are all US Eastern Time Zone)...

    4:50pm - Women's Rowing - Eights

    6:00am - Women's Tennis - singles final

    9:30am - Men's Skeet Shooting

    10:19am - Women's Gymnastics - vault

    1:35pm - Men's Track & Field - shot put

    1:50pm - Women's Track & Field - 100m semifinal

    2:30pm - Men's Swimming - 100m butterfly

    2:59pm - Women's Swimming - 200 IM

    3:09pm - Women's Swimming - 800m free

    3:20pm - Women's Track & Field - 100m final

1:30pm until 3:30pm is going to be some hot fire!

More detailed schedule than I had seen previously, with exact starting times for events such as athletics and swimming finals and final matches in combat sports. As well, the gymnastics apparatus finals have been assigned to their various days

The athletics timetable has been public for awhile, but that's new and very welcome info with swimming and gymnastics.  Thanks for sharing!  I have some spreadsheet updating to take care of!

Next big piece of the puzzle is the football draws next week.

I just can't believe they gave the final to some c-tier metro area instead of the best city in the country :p

Arlington?  Because technically, that stadium isn't in the city anymore than ours is :d

If it's up to the IOC, there probably won't be anymore news until their EB Meeting in March (at least, that's the theory I've read).

Yeah, what CAS are saying is that it's not their decision to make.  The IOC decides who gets their medals.  But I can't imagine that the IOC are going to do anything crazy on this.  Well, on second thoughts.....

Second thoughts - Actually, of course, the ISU are the people who decide, not the IOC.  The IOC are only the hosts, the ISU govern the sport.

The ISU, and only the ISU, determines the results of the competition.  The IOC will then act accordingly to make sure the correct athletes get their medals.  The good thing is that this isn't a re-allocation since the medals were never awarded in the first place.

My hope would be that they work together to make this happen in Montreal in March.  But I don't have that much faith in either side to do this properly and with the respect these athletes deserve after they were robbed of justice in Beijing.

Will Canada get a medal then?

From the way the press release is worded, it doesn't seem like CAS has made that ruling.  Don't know what this means, but it sounds like the ISU now gets to make the decision.  So they could either nullify just Valieva's results and that would theoretically give ROC the bronze.  Or they could disqualify the whole federation and then Canada would presumably get upgraded.

  6. Hi all.  Finished work on my spreadsheets (for now).  There are 2 separate ones for now, but they're linked to each other.  One goes day by day, the other is sport by sport..

Paris 2024 competition schedule by Day

Paris 2024 competition schedule by Sport

I'll update these as more of the schedule gets filled out, like matchups in team sports and breakdown of individual events in sports like swimming (I have the track events in athletics broken down by time.

If anyone has additional information to add or new schedules get released, I'll add them here.  Don't know how much I'll keep up during the games as the team sports reach the elimination rounds, but anyone who wants to help is more than welcome!

And if anyone has any suggestions on how to make improvements here, I'm open to opinions.

    Thanks!

When you look at the schedule, which day in Paris looks the most interesting for you?

That entire middle weekend is going to be incredible.  Toss up for me between Day 8 and Day 9.  Both have finals in swimming, track & field, and gymnastics.  Plus it's the last 2 rounds of men's golf, the 2 cycling road races (that's going to be something special), all the finals in tennis.  I will be locked in!!

That's just ridiculous. Why not simply have the sevens at Parc des Princes, arguably the spritual home of French Rugby anyway.

They need 6 days for the rugby tournaments, so that slots in nicely at Stade de France before the athletics competition begins, especially since unlike pretty much any other Olympics, they're not using the stadium for the opening ceremony.  The football tournament is spread out over the length of the Olympics, so they put that at Parc des Princes.  I can't speak to French rugby, but I know they had the World Cup at Stade de France, so if they can get the big crowds there for the Olympics, it makes a lot of sense to have rugby there

I believe it had more to do with "commercial conflicts" between 2028 and 2030. Although, I'm sure they'll be happy to guarantee some more broadcast dollars.

To be honest, I'm not sure what the consequences of back-to-back editions in the same country would be, so can't really form an opinion on that.

Pushing Salt Lake to 2034 is a bonus for the IOC, but it was mostly the USOPC pushing that.  Having LA and Salt Lake only 18 months apart would be tough for LA to try and share in sponsorship dollars.  That's what the USOPC wanted to hold off on Salt Lake.  If they're asking companies to invest big in the Olympics, it's a tough ask for those same companies to do the same thing again less than 2 years later.  6 years later is an easier sell

Also just pure coincidence that USA are being pushed for 2034, when we all know the NBC contract end with 2032.  IOC salivating on the negotiations for the new rights already.

Been saying the same thing for years now.  For all of the times that it was said the USOPC preferred 2034 to 2030, even when the IOC seemed like they may not have any options for 2030, that's going to be a huge boon for media rights.  Have a feeling they'll open up those negotiations right around when things are heating up for 2028 so they can maximize that contract.  As opposed to the 2022-2032 deal which they handed to NBC without much of a fight.

Not hosting in Stockholm in 2030 feels like a real missed opportunity.

The French bid winning 2030 feels very weird. I'm sure they will be perfectly good games. Switzerland being targeted for 2038 this far out also feels a bit weird.

I really hate how little transparancy this process has.

Sounds like financial guarantees were an issue.  And yes, not a fan of how 1 day the IOC just decides that they have a location in mind for the 2038 games.

But, yeah. France confirmed as the sole interested party going into the next phase for 2030, same for Salt Lake for 2034. Switzerland's project was invited for talks with eyes on 2038.

Sweden is basically ignored, other than saying "thank you, your project would have been the most sustainable ever, but your people don't want it" :p

Feel bad for Sweden.  3 countries just got validated and Sweden left out in the proverbial (and literal) cold yet again.

Does anyone here plan on attending the LA 2028 games?

It's a long ways off, but I'd love to be there.  I've only been to 1 other Olympics (Salt Lake 2002) and that was to work, so it would be nice to be there strictly as a spectator.

To be entirely fair, when no cause of death is mentioned, that is often the 'default' way of announcing a death by suicide...

Not to say that's the case here, and if family thinks it's necessary, we'll hear about it whenever they think the time is right (or not), but it's not the weirdest of thoughts to have when there's news like this.

Still we should not see it as a conclusion, indeed. And anyway the main thing right now is hoping that her friends and family find some strength somewhere :(

It's definitely fair to ask the question and I'm hoping if there's more to the story that this is mental health related, we'll learn about it.  Again, I just don't want to jump to any conclusions because of some random posting on instagram.

That said, this is someone whose opinion I weigh a lot more strongly and this definitely does hint at mental health as the reason she is gone...

So why would the IG post by kingpaulaskew say this: "Depression is real y’all please check on your people. You never know what they are battling in their minds".

Who is Paul Askew and why do we put that much stock into 1 post on IG that we're assuming she committed suicide?  Especially if he's going to mention USATF in that post since there seems like there's an accusation there and not provide much additional context.

I have a feeling we'll find out more in time, but for now, let's not jump to the conclusion that this was suicide just because 1 random post on IG said so

Ice cross at the Olympics? Yes please :d  One of my favourite non-olympic winter sports by far. So exciting to watch.

For those who have never seen ice cross before, and have no clue what it is, here’s a video explaining it for you :yes

I have seen it before and I think this would be a great addition to the Olympics.  Not like they need a big fancy permanent venue for it, either.  They probably don't have the appropriate international organization to make it happen, but I like the idea
