  13. FINALLY, Team USA has come away with not one but two medals!!!
  14. It’s getting harder to do my daily recaps due to time. I am just happy that we had two Americans in the top 10 of the Women’s Giant Slalom and Men’s 500m Speed Skating.
  15. I feel for Macuga. But Alpine Skiing is a dangerous sport.
  16. @Olympian1010 Did you see Macuga is not competing in the Giant Slalom???!?!??!
  17. YOG TEAM Day 3 preview: ALPINE SKIING: There is another medal on the line in Alpine Skiing. It will be the Women’s Giant Slalom. 78 athletes will be competing in this event. Each athlete gets two runs and the lowest time in the two runs combined wins. There will be two Americans in this event. Emma Resnick will go 2nd at approximately 4:02am ET. Her teammate, Nicola Rountree-Williams, will be two skiers after her (at about 4:05am ET). Should they finish run 1, both Resnick & Rountree-Williams will go for a second run. Their second runs will be between 6:45am ET and 8:15am ET. The start list will come out after run 1. BIATHLON: The sport of Biathlon will offer medals today in the Singles Mixed Relay. One male and one female make up each team. There are 30 teams competing & they all start at the same time. The U.S. pair will feature Van Ledger (Male) and Kaisa Bosek (female). They will be wearing bib number 6. Both athletes will go twice around the course. This race will start at 4:30am ET and should end at about the hour mark. CURLING: It is day 3 of round robin play in the Mixed Teams competition. Yesterday, Team USA got their first win of the games over Latvia 7-0. This time they will face undefeated Japan. This is a critical game for the U.S. if they want to get into the top two and advance to the Quarterfinals. This should be a competitive and great match. It will start at 6:00am ET. FIGURE SKATING: The first Figure Skating medals will be handed out today in the Pairs event & Men’s Singles in the free skate. This is probably the best chance for an American medal today. The Pairs free skate will start the day. The American pair of Cate Fleming and Jedidiah Isbell finished in 4th place, 10 points removed from the top 3, after the short program. They have a big margin to cut, so they need a great performance if they want a chance at a medal. They will take the ice at 6:22am ET. The Men’s Singles free skate will come after the Pairs event. The U.S. won’t have much of a shot at winning a medal here. The lone American Liam Kapeikis finished in 14th place out of 15 athletes after the short program. He will perform at about 8:22am ET. SPEED SKATING: Speed Skating will start today with the Men’s 500m and Women’s 500m. Both are handing out medals. Unfortunately, the U.S. does not have any female speed skaters competing. The competition will be held on a frozen lake in St. Moritz. There will be two Americans in the Men’s 500m event. Jordan Stolz will be the first to go. He will race at about 7:10am ET. His teammate Jonathan Tobon will go in the pair right after Stolz. He will race at approximately 7:14am ET. Hopefully, they can get Team USA’s first medal of these YOG. Here is a viewing guide for day 3 (all times ET). 4:02am- Women’s Giant Slalom (Emma Resnick) 4:05am- Women’s Giant Slalom (Nicola Rountree-Williams) 4:30am-5:30am- Biathlon Relay (Van Ledger & Kaisa Bosek) 6:00am-8:00am- Curling Mixed Teams (Team USA) 6:22am- Pairs Skating (Cate Fleming & Jedidiah Isbell) 6:45am-8:15am- Women’s Giant Slalom Run 2 (Resnick & Rountree-Williams) 7:10am- Men’s Speed Skating (Jordan Stolz) 7:14am- Men’s Speed Skating (Jonathan Tobon) 8:22am- Men’s Skating (Liam Kapeikis)
  18. YOG TEAM day 2 recap: ALPINE SKIING: Team USA came up empty handed yet again in Alpine Skiing. The two events held were the Men’s & Women’s Combined. The athletes took their Super G run yesterday, and finished with a slalom run today. The medalists are decided based on the combination of the two runs. The Men’s event was up first. Team USA’s best shot at a medal came to a screeching halt when Trent Pennington failed to finish the course. He was in 20th place after the Super G. The other two American skiers, Maxx Parys and Daniel Gillis, both finished in the top 30. Gillis finished in 19th place with a time of 1:32.74 (about 4 seconds behind winner). Parys came in 29th with a time of 1:35.14. We will see these three athletes later in the games. The Women’s event followerd. Only one American was eligible to compete after Lauren Macuga & Nicola Rountree-Williams failed to complete the Super G course. Emma Resnick came in a solid 12th place. She finished about 2.5 seconds behind the winner. Solid performance from Resnick. She and the other two women will have another shot at a medal later in the games. BIATHLON: The two other gold medals were given out in Biathlon. The events were the Women’s 10km Individual & Men’s 12.5km Individual. There were 3 Americans in each event. The Women’s 10km Individual event started the day. 97 athletes took on the course. The highest placing American on the day was Kaisa Bosek who finished in 18th place. She was just 2 and a half minutes from the podium. Opening Ceremony flag bearer Margaret Madigan came in 55th, about 7 minutes behind the winner. Maja Lapkass placed 69th, about 9 minutes away from the winner. These three ladies will all compete in the Women’s Sprint event. The Men’s 12.5km Individual followed after the women’s event. The highest placing American, Van Ledger, finished in 59th with a time of 41:03 (7 minutes behind winner). Cale Woods came in 64th place, just over 7 minutes behind the winner. Etienne Bordes was bringing up the rear in 76th place out of 99 athletes. Just like the women, these 3 men will have another shot in the Sprint event. CURLING: It was day 2 and match 2 for the Team USA Mixed Team. They took on Latvia following an opening loss to Italy. The U.S. must finish top 2 in Group D to advance to the Quarterfinals. The team of Ethan Hebert, Kaitlin Murphy, Charlie Thompson & Alina Tschumakow shut out Latvia 7-0. They scored a point in all 6 ends that were played. This is Latvia’s 2nd time getting shut out in 2 matches. It was a straight forward win for Team USA. They will continue pool play tomorrow. FIGURE SKATING: On the ice, the Ice Dance & Women’s Singles competitions began. The Ice Dancers has their Rhythm Dance & the women had their short program. Team USA had a total of 4 athletes competing. The pair of Katarina Wolfkostin and Jeffrey Chen were the lone Americans in the Ice Dance Rhythm Dance. They had a good score of 57.02 which slotted them in 5th place. They are well within striking distance for the podium. Just over 2 and a half points separates the Americans from the 3rd place Canadians. The medals will be handed out Monday. Team USA had two women’s skaters competing in the short program. Audrey Shin finished better of the two. She had a score of 60.36 points which put her in 7th. She is about 9 points from the top 3. She needs a great free skate to make the podium. The other American, Kate Wang, came in 10th place with a score of 54.75. We will see both of these women compete in the free skate on Monday. Overall, it was another average day for Team USA. They did pick up a win in Curling. Figure Skating May look like the best chance for a U.S. medal. Tomorrow, we will see Team USA in Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Curling, Figure Skating and Speed Skating.
  19. Great performance by Audrey Shin. Perhaps, we have a realistic hope for a medal in these games.
  20. Big shout out to @Olympian1010 and @Vojthas for making great podcasts. I love listening to them right before I go to bed. It is a perfect wrap up of the day’s action. I love the work you guys put in. Great job as always!!!
  21. That is true. Like I said I don’t think we are sending the best athletes. While I would like Team USA to do better in YOG, it makes sense what they are doing. They are getting developing athletes exposure under the lime light. The better athletes sort of have that in World Cup competition.
