Well it is one of the main modifications done to the original format of Omnium. Before, the Omnium comprised every individual race not on the Olympic program, with 6 events in total. Now it was shortened to be completed in one day, instead of two.

Tempo race has several sprints, similar to points race, but only winner of the sprint gets a point. Scratch is about winning laps on the rest of the field, basically.

Winners in the individual events in the Olympic program (3m & 10m) will earn a quota for their NOC, if not previously qualified through the last World Championships in that event. In that last case, the quota gets reallocated to next year's Diving World Cup. On a curious note, only 4 entries in women's 10m synchro, less than the number of minimum entries an event should have to be held at the Games. Guess Pan Am Sports decided to throw away that rule in this ocasion.

Well done USA I think they have greater technical elements than Mexican team, and also no major synchronicity issues. However a couple of their throws look quite unpolished... if they manage that, no doubt they'll be more than a point ahead of Mexico and closer to Canada.

Great work from Canada This is what difference the top 3 teams from the rest in my opinion: each choreographic movement is perfectly time with the music and it actually "tells a story".
