Swimming Qualification for Summer Olympic Games 2016
uk12points replied to MantaRaymarc's topic in Swimming
British Olympic Trials start tomorrow, live on YouTube i believe. Qualification is as follows: Only 30 athletes are allowed to compete for GB In Rio The winner of each event, who swam the FINA Olympic Qualification Time in the final, will qualify for Rio If the second place finisher meets the olympic consideration time then they can be added to the squad, the Head Coach can also select an athlete if they are 'very close, to the consideration time. But this is up to the selectors to decide https://www.britishswimming.org/documents/34/2016_Olympic_Games_Selection_Policy_FINAL_8-10-15.pdf -
Summer Olympic Games 2020 Broadcasters
uk12points replied to Mkbw50's topic in Summer Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
Ok, so there will be more computer watching I guess! I don't like this Discovery/Eurosport idea, I strongly believe you should never have to pay to be inspired by the Olympics, hopefully the BBC will keep extensive coverage and Discovery is an easily accessible and high quality coverage of other events. Hopefully the BBC will expand its online coverage from 2018 onwards so that it can challenge this Eurosport coverage and encourage the IOC to choose quality over money the next time they sell tv rights. But maybe the Olympic TV channel will be up and running then and it will be all different -
Summer Olympic Games 2020 Broadcasters

we were very lucky, but with the new budget cuts and the possible end of the red button I fear we may not be so lucky again. For Rio I haven't heard anything yet about whether the coverage will be the same as London, personally with the loss of BBC3 I expect they will have to introduce a few BBC Olympics channels. Have you heard any broadcasting arrangements for Rio 2016? -
Boxing Qualification for Summer Olympic Games 2016

I haven't heard anything, but I would be suprised as Joe Joyce has been selected to attempt to qualify so it doesn't look like he would have a space on the team. -

Swimming Qualification for Summer Olympic Games 2016
uk12points replied to MantaRaymarc's topic in Swimming
That is crazy, 48.25 would have come 5th at the 2015 World Championships in the 100m Free and he would have made the final at London 2012. For the Women's 53.88 would have put her 9th at London 2012 and 6th at 2015 World Championships. Hopefully they have another think about their selection policy and allow the two of them to compete at the Olympics. -

Tokyo 2020 Emblems Selection Committee A. Harmonized chequered emblem Chequered patterns have been popular in many countries around the world throughout history. In Japan, the chequered pattern became formally known as “ichimatsu moyo” in the Edo period (1603-1867), and this chequered design in the traditional Japanese colour of indigo blue expresses a refined elegance and sophistication that exemplifies Japan. Composed of three varieties of rectangular shapes, the design represents different countries, cultures and ways of thinking. It incorporates the message of “unity in diversity”. It also expresses that the Olympic and Paralympic Games seek to promote diversity as a platform to connect the world. B. Connecting Circle, Expanding Harmony This design expresses the connection between the dynamism of the athletes and the joy of the spectators, and the expansion of peace and harmony throughout the world. It seeks to encompass mental and physical strength, dynamic movement and speed, and the euphoric emotions that the world derives from outstanding athletic performances. The design also expresses the respect and warm hospitality that will be accorded to visitors from around the world to the Tokyo 2020 Games. C. Surpassing One’s Personal Best These emblems were inspired by the traditional Wind God and the Thunder God, and seek to convey dynamic movement at the instant an athlete breaks the tape on the finish line. They also represent athletes as they endeavour to attain and surpass their personal best. The Wind God and the Thunder God have been much loved by the people of Japan for centuries. (e.g. the famous painting by the early 17th century Japanese artist Tawaraya Sotatsu, and the statues of these Gods at the Kaminari-mon Gate in Tokyo’s Asakusa district) In the original depiction, the taiko drums held by the Thunder God are represented by fireworks, while the Wind Cloth held by the Wind God is replaced by the portrayal of a rainbow to symbolise the concepts of peace, diversity and harmony. The emblems also express the athletes’ continued contribution to peace through their mental and physical tenacity, and a connection to the future. D. Flowering of Emotions The morning glory flower as it faces up towards the heavens to greet the new morning, expresses the faces of athletes striving to attain a personal best and the bright faces of people as they applaud the athletes. The upward-looking morning glory also represents the climax of this range of emotions. The seed of the morning glory sprouts, the vine grows, and the flower opens,—the process of the flower growing and eventually returning to seed conveys the sense of expectation for the Games and succession to the next generation. This flower was particularly popular during Japan's Edo period (1603-1867), and remains a firm favourite (e.g. as subject for “Ukiyoe” prints.) It signifies a heightened sense of anticipation towards the 2020 Games and the warm welcome that visitors from around the world will receive. -

Some more updates in Russian doping scandal: Russia’s Tatyana Beloborodova is facing the prospect of being stripped of her Olympic hammer throw gold medal she won at London 2012 after she was provisionally suspended by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) for retrospectively failing a drugs test. Last month, Russia's Sergey Kirdyapkin was stripped of his Olympic medal he had won in the 50 kilometres walk at London 2012 for doping. Elena Lashmanova, another athlete coached by Viktor Chegin, who has now been banned for life, had won the women's 20km race at London 2012 and has been allowed to keep her gold medal, despite testing positive herself in 2014. Yuliya Zaripova is set to be stripped of the gold medal she won in the 3,000 metres steeplechase because of doping Mariya Savinova, the 800m gold medallist, is also under investigation and expected to be disqualified.
