Yes, format should not matter, at least not a whole lot.

I love the idea of having the results available here as it will be useful for me personally. I used to contribute when I could on the old forum but I don't have time to spend on adhering to strict formats, and I view my free time as more precious these days. But I am definitely all for this idea even if I cannot contribute myself

Well, you're the one who knows where to look for it. Totallympics could be a place where people who don't would get to know that - at least that's how I would use it for the disciplines I'm not so close to.

I don't know on which date the contest will be, but the rule says:

    7. (a) Any first time participant must have been registered on the forum at least 2 months before they take part in the contest.

So from early March on he should be fine (unless he will disappear )

    Hello everyone and happy 2020

We are into the Olympic Year, Tokyo 2020 will be the third summer Olympic Games since Totallympics' birth (March 2011). The last summer Olympic year was unfortunate for the forum because in 2016 we lost everything and we started again from scratch (for users who joined the forum later: this is the reason why you will not find posts before March 2016).

With the new start, Totallympics changed its skin a little bit, in the old forum we were collecting results of a huge number of sports events. And this is something I would like to start again, of course with the users' help.

In the past few weeks, I have been thinking about and already found some ways to speed up and make it easier the process of copy-pasting results. I am in touch with @Johne, the guy who is working on the IAAF Road to Tokyo Ranking lists. The idea is to find a tool to quickly convert pdf result files into tables we can post here on the forum (or on our results portal). He is working with the R language and has opened a GitHub project about that, so if someone has some skills he/she will be able to help as well.

Of course, I can't realize all this alone, so to make it possible we would need users who are willing to contribute in their free time, without being paid but just for their passion for sports. The more we are, the most events we can provide results for, and the ideal thing would be each user to contribute in his/her favorite sport(s) so that most of the sports will be covered.

Basically the main idea would be to start from our Calendar, where we have all the international sports events listed, and provide links to results, which could be either to our results portal or, to speed up the process, to external results websites. The same could be applied for the schedule of each event before the event start.

I will use this thread to keep you updated about our progresses and of course if anyone has any idea feel free to share it here. This is a long term project and it goes beyond Tokyo 2020, but it would be nice to start working during the Olympic year.

Cycling is a sort of exceptions because there are a lot of specialized websites about this sport. And the same could be said for tennis, football and a few other sports. But these are just a small part of the olympic sports and as @Federer91 pointed out there are some sports for whom not even the international federation itself care about publishing results. One thing we could do is to focus more on sports for which it's not that immediate to find results.

The old forums results sections were a real treasure. If you were looking for something, there was a 95% chance it would be here. All the important events were updated regularly, with results, competitions, schedules, standings.

For the big sports, or the ones i follow closely, like football, tennis, FIS, cycling, darts etc., there are enough places, which i have on speed-typing or in my memory, which i can use faster. But that is probably 5-10% of all sports.

But for the rest, the forum was my go to site, when i wanted to see some other results or competitions. Rowing, gymnastics, shooting, fencing, table tennis, weightlifting, skeleton, speed skating, short track. I don't know these sports sites, federations, how they post their results. It would take me much more time to find them, rather than come here, go to the Rowing thread and see the most recent results sub-threads, with the results, standings, quotas etc. These things now i look on Wikipedia and pray it is updated regularly ever since we lost the old forum.

Also many sports have awful sites, when it comes to regularly updated information or general usefulness for sports fans like us. I have had a real headache, when looking for stuff, which are not for the major sports. There are hundreds of sites for tennis, but try looking for weightlifting, or boxing (AIBA), for which there are 2-3 useful sites at most..

I commend the idea and if there are users who would want to do this massive work, hats off.

Greetings from the last Totallympics time zone!

As I write this, we are now one hour away from the new year, 33rd Olympiad year, and a new “Roaring 20s” decade. It’s no secret that I’m one for emotional posts, so why not finish the decade with one .

Where to start? I guess 2010. I am 9 years old at the time of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. I cannot remember much from the game, but I remember the absolute joy of racing home from school to catch the Cross Country Classic Sprint Finals. I cannot remember the winner, nor a single race, but I remember the magic of that moment. Lindsey Vonn also captures my mind, as well as a nation’s heart after winning the women’s downhill. Fast-forward to 2016, and I’m standing at the bottom of the hill where Vonn won gold. 2 hours, later I’m at the Whistler Bobsleigh Center, and I’ve just seen a bobsleigh rattle down the track for the first time. Overall, I consider Vancouver to be the most magical and beautiful place in the world, and I’m honored to share this last Totallympics time zone with it (I hope to visit again one day). Let’s go back to 2012. I’ve just failed my first class in school (straight up F), and I’ve also started the four shittest years of my life (minus the only snow day of my childhood). My mind is one again captured by the magic of the Olympic Games. However, I’m not allowed to watch the closing ceremony because school has begun, and I’m not allowed to do anything but work now. At this point in my life I was both a bully, and a victim. It’s honestly one of the most traumatizing experiences a child can go through in my opinion, and it shapes a lot of my world view to this day. It’s in 2014 that I question the meaning, and really ponder suicide, though I never tell my parents, and never reach out to anyone putting myself in extreme danger. Luckily (and miraculously), I over come the hardest year in my life, thanks to the help of the magic the 2014 Winter Olympics. However, my grades slip during the games, and I’m banned from watching them after the first week. At this point, it’d be pretty hard for my life to get worse. It wasn’t actually that bad by any means, but many small issues began to compound, and it was becoming too much again. I was again in a dark place that summer before the 8th grade (the last grade before high school). I’m not a religious person, but if there was ever a second coming of the Lord, it was my eighth grade teacher. She saw what others had overlooked in me. She pushed to pursue my passions, and taught me what true compassion looked like. She herself told me (a kid with the longest disciplinary record in school history), that I embodies the true meaning of the faith, and that in her eyes, I was the person closest to the message of Jesus she had ever seen. Thanks to her belief in me, my parents support, and the return of the girl I’ve chased my entire life, and my improving mental health; I went from near last, to near first of my middle school class. It was this year that I had the honor of representing my region at the California State Geography Bee. It was this year that I was awarded as the “Best Young Journalist” at my middle school, for my dedication to writing, storytelling, and learning. It was this year, that I truly found myself. That summer I went on an unforgettable road trip with my mom and sister through some of our nations best territory. I witnessed a suicide attempt, I saw my life flash before my eyes, I saw the best nature, helped a struggling mother (not mine), and had honestly not of the best times of my life. After summer, I get a fresh start with new kids at my high school. I also continue my then 5 years long running career by joining the distance running team. I refuse to talk about my distance running days because you had to be there to enjoy it, but damn, it was a highly enjoyable four years. At my high school, I gain a reputation again as a journalist, writer, and sports enthusiast. I was always popular during the 2016/2018 Olympics . Those are also the two Olympics I remember most. From cheering Casey down the course, to screeming at Chris Mazder as he went through turn 9. From watching my Fijians destroy the once mighty English lords, to the peace of two Koreas. From the Favela’s of Rio, to the forests of Jeongsong. I also became a poet, photographer, climber, and skater. For once I was judged not by my misdeeds, but by the strength of mind, and the wit of my mouth. The tiny little caterpillar from 2010, had transformed into a Monarch butterfly (just like the butterflies that migrate through my town yearly). I had overcome much hardship, and become a person I could truly be proud to be. So is the story of my “Lost Generation” and my found beauty.

Alright, now that I’ve got the decade out of way, let’s look at some of highlights from 2019.

Let’s see: I graduated high school. Survived my first semester of college. Began a international sports news website. Became an integral part of a larger community. Saw my first Biathlon race. Had two, not one, two snow days. I put others before myself. I lost a true master of a teacher. I gave the gift of memories. I had a wonderful summer full of amazing multi-sports games. I had my pitfalls. I broke up with a long time friend. I failed to land the girl I chased forever. I stopped running for time in my life that I can remember. I struggled to do my work. I wasn’t always there when people needed me. I wasn’t always truthful. I stuck by my morals. I gave someone inspiration. I reached a cool milestone within my favorite online community. I started a freaking podcast. I lived everyday like I loved living. I lived through 2019.

Well, that’s it. The last post of 2019 and of the 10s decade. Like most of you I too am excited for 2020. I will attend my first Olympic Games in person! However, it also important to remember what matters. Life matters. I’ve spent too much time wasting mine. It’s not worth it, in 2020 we should make it our collective goal to make the most of our lives. It’s okay if you don’t feel this way. If you are in a dark place, or going through the motions of depression, SEEK HELP. My greatest mistake in this decade was not doing that. I got lucky, but I could have saved myself so much pain.

Here’s to sport, here’s to health, here’s to life, here’s to love, here’s to me, here’s to you, here’s to us, here’s to 2020!

Here’s our first official episode of TWU (Totallympics Weekly Update): https://anchor.fm/twu/episodes/TWU-2-Ending-Out-The-Year-With-Our-Best-Episode-Yet-e9t9tj

@Vojthas and myself really enjoyed this one, so please give it a listen whenever you get the chance (on your way to work, in morning, before bed, when you’re bored, when there aren’t enough sports on, etc.)

Again, we’d love any feedback you could give us. Also, any suggestions for what we should cover next week. Plus, any ideas for segments or episodes (or of you’d like to come on for an episode and talk with us about something).

Lastly, @Vojthas, @Dragon, and I cannot thank you enough for supporting us this year. Admittedly, it’s been a rocky start. However, with your support we’ve been able to build up an awesome website, and a great audio service. I’d also give thanks to @OlympicIRL and @mrv86 for their early contributions to Totallympics Media (and your both welcome back anytime ). Some more thanks are in order to users like @heywoodu @dcro @ChandlerMne @ahjfcshfghb @intoronto @Wumo @zob79 @TomJa @bmo @ofan @Griff88 @JoshMartini007 (and anyone else who I just unfortunately forgot) who give us constant feedback, consist support, and our the main reason we’ve made it this far. Of course, the man himself, @Sindo was deserves a massive, massive thanks for helping us accomplish all of this; without his work, none of us would have meant, we would have never had our own website, and we’d never have had a place to belong. 2019, was a fantastic, maddening, awesome, thrilling, joyously crazy, and thrill ride of a year. For all of us at Totallympics Media: Thank You all for your support and passion. We hope you have a wonderful, blessed, and sport-filled 2020.

Alright everyone, 2020 is just around the corner, and you know that means...Olympics!!!

@Vojthas, @Dragon, and myself a very excited to bring you more content than ever in 2020. You guys have kept us going with your continued support, and we are working all time on trying to bring you the best, newest, and most exciting content we can. As many of you know, I will be lucky enough to be in Tokyo at the 2020 Summer Olympics, and I have some very exciting announcements concerning our content goals for those games in the future. However, there is one “Olympics” to go before Tokyo, and that’s the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne. @Vojthas and I have already pledged full coverage of the event on our side. To help us, help you get the information and content you want, I’d like to know what you guys 1) want to know about the games 2) what to see from our coverage 3) what information do you most want 4) any other suggestions or comments you have. We want to use the 2020 YOG as a dry run for our Tokyo2020 coverage, so we will be all hands on deck, and fully operational for our first time since the 2019 Pan American Games. I hope y’all are looking forward to 2020 as much as we are, and we cannot wait to bring you more content.

P.S. Two things: 1) I’ve read all the responses to the trivia question, and we are working on the best format for those. Hopefully in the coming weeks we’ll be able to publish some quizzes on the website. 2) I will announce the full details of our 2020 YOG coverage in the near future. We will make sure you do not miss a moment of the games.
