Wumo 2,452 Posted January 29, 2022 #6 Share Posted January 29, 2022 Like their women's team, Chile's men also qualify for their first-ever World Cup with a win over United States after penalty shoot-out. Argentina secured the other WC spot with a 5-2 win over Canada.

Oceania, Africa already have bare minimum spots. So, any additional spot for Americas have to come from either Asia (3) or Europe (7). Americas doesn't deserve more spots than Asia. One can argue that almost 50% of spots for Europe is high but then Europe does have a large number of good teams. In fact, except Argentina and occasionally Canada, none of the other American teams have been competitive at World stage. Asia on the other hand has in 5 decent teams and 3 spots. I would prefer a system with 5 spots for Europe instead of 7 and remaining spots to go to a World tournament.

As stated above Asia has 5 good teams yet one will miss the tournament. Any of them would beat Chile/Canada 7 times out of 10 (personal opinion after watching these teams many times). Pan-America does have an argument to deserve 4 places among the women though.
