South Africa has qualified after defeating Ghana 3-1 to win african cup of nations.

I believe Ghana qualifies for the Commonwealth Games hockey tournament with this 2nd place though.

I'm pretty sure the cut is being made now in February or March, after the continental tournaments. I saw posts from several african federations saying their teams were aiming for qualification to the games in this competition.

And well... T&T is already toasted in the panam cup and has been behind Ghana for a long time and the other african Commonwealth nations didn't use this chance to them take down, so Ghana is making the cut regardless of the month.

Korea, China, Japan and India have qualified for the WC after making the semifinals of women's Asia Cup.

No surprises there as Asia had 4 quotas and the distance in quality between those teams and the rest is inmense.

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
