Slim pickings on the women's side, it is likely one, if not two quotas will be reallocated

top 50 of the world ranking in the single categories, which is quite a different thing than the OQR (there should be a few more options)...;)

Weird that they didn't keep things consistent.

That adds...

:ALB:BUR to men's -67kg

:KOS:MNE to men's +75kg

:BEN to women's -55kg

:KOS:MKD to women's +61kg

Well in that case, Benin almost certainly won themselves a Karate quota

no. it's not a sure thing that a free spot remains available in this weight after they give the continental quotas. it's very complicated actually. it depends on who qualifies in the last chance qualifier.

Zabihollah Poursheib wrote something on his instagram , that's very long but the main point is this line

This is very unfair, very cruel, the history should remember that the second place in Olympic Ranking didn't qualify for the Olympics.

But let’s be fair, probably he would not have made it even in a normal circumstances. Of course you never know, he had a chance and that was taken from him. But he is not the only one and there will be many many more in other sports.
For Iran it does not really matter. They have still a medal contender in that category.

of course it doesn't matter for Iran, actually I'm glad Ganjzadeh made it. he has more chance for the gold medal than Poursheib. I really really feel sorry for Poursheib :(, I know he sacrificed a lot to be in Tokyo, but I always preferred Ganjzadeh.

yes having another K1 event most probably wouldn't change much for Poursheib and that's not the point, he didn't even mention that in his long post. he is more upset about the rules favoring Ganjzadeh over him despite having less points.

he is hugely disappointed because they didn't know having more points won't be enough for him. they only found out about it when he surpassed Ganjzadeh in the ranking but WKF ranking was still showing Ganjzadeh in green. WKF should mentioned it very clearly in its official qualification rule but they didn't predict such a rare situation.

and I don't think there are "many many more" athletes who are 2nd in Olympic Ranking and still doesn't qualify for the olympics. (I'm talking about sports with qualification based on the ranking) this is very very rare where top 2 are from the same country. I know it happened at men's 58kg taekwondo but can't remember another example in any other sports. Poursheib is very upset because he is not even behind another Iranian in the WR. my point is I think Poursheib deserved it more because he had more points even though I still think Ganjzadeh is a better option.

For Chinese table tennis players, world no.1 is not a guarantee for participating Olympics though 2 quotas available. World ranking is just for reference, head coach have the final say to choose which 2 players to play. In Rio current women world no.1 Liu Shiwen failed to participate single event but luckily she was on team event.

    • The NFL are pushing had to develop flag football in Australia in hopes of getting it included in 2032. I hope they fail tbh.   Single gender sports fail the gender equality requirement so netball is out unless they can rapidly fix their gender problem. World Netball not so long ago was refusing utterly to sanction men's international netball or even support the growth of men's netball so they kind of sabotaged themselves and are only changing courses out of self interest because Brisbane was awarded the Olympics.   It doesn't even make sense to propose Aussie rules given how poor the participation is outside of Australia.
    • - Great Britain Team Size Prediction for Winter Olympic Games 2026 Milano Cortina   Ski Sports   Alpine Skiing  (4) - The qualification system is a bit confusing, but from what I gather the team is Guaranteed 2 quotas (one for each gender), and then more are given for rankings. I can only see 1 female qualifying, but the men's team is a bit stronger, and could improve with some juniors coming through. I would say a baseline of 3, with a max of 5, 6 if things really improve.  Cross Country Skiing  (3) - The men's team came 11th in the world cup last year, and with some good results could move up to top 10 which would give 3 quotas, The women's team is non existant.  Ski Jumping  (0) - Nope Nordic Combined  (0) - Nope Freestyle Skiing  (6) - Based on last year rankings, the athletes are ranked: M Moguls (26/30), M Ski Cross (26/32), M Halfpipe (33/25), M Slopestyle (39+40/30) W Moguls (23+42/30), W Halfpipe (3/25), W Big Air (5/30), W Slopestyle (19+22/30)  Barring Injury , thats 2 quotas on the women's side, and I would predict 4 more, with a max team of 7 or 8. Snowboarding  (2) - W Halfpipe (34/25) is the only unknown quota, as both Charlotte Bankes and Mia Brookes should qualify easily. Huw Nightlingale may get a spot for the Mixed Team snowboard cross but I don't know how it works. Biathlon  (0) - Nope Ski Mountaineering  (0) - Nope     Skating Sports   Speed Skating  (2) - Cornelius Kersten and Elia Smelding should qualify, although they both haven't competed this year. Short Track Speed Skating  (2) - A team of 5 went to the world but only a couple could really qualify Figure Skating  (4) - Fear and Gibson should qualify, and the pair team is ranked 16th in the world with 19 qualifiers.      Sleigh Sports   Luge  (0) - Nope Skeleton  (6) - A full team is certainly on the cards, but with only ranking points from the next season counting a lot could change Bobsleigh  (6) - Brad Hall and Co should qualify for both 2 and 4 man. I doubt any more will qualify from the mens side. Adele Nicholl on the womens should also qualify in both events     Team Sports   Curling  (12) - Anything but a full team would be a dissapointment Ice Hockey  (0) - The men were the only chance       Total Optimistic Prediction  -  (60) Total Pessimistic Prediction  - (32)   Total Realistic Prediction  -  (47)

    • North American rugby quotas ( and qualified automatically)    M: and W: and
    • I remember Caroline Golubitsky. She competed with Vezzali for a while but not for long. Rita Konig, whom Vezzali defeated in the final of the Olympic Games in 2000, was more famous, as well as Sabine Bau and Anja Mueller. From what I remember, the Germans competed fiercely with us at some point, but they almost always lost.
