Table Tennis Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

Entry List

 

For the men, 5 groups (4 athletes each) will play a round robin with the top two advancing to a single elimination tournament

For the women, 3 groups (4 athletes in two, 3 athletes in one) will play a round robin with the top two advancing to a single elimination tournament.

Took a look at the world rankings for these athletes.

 

For the men :KSA Ali Alkhadrawi (rank: 164) leads all athletes at with :QAT Mohammed Abdulwahhab (rank: 260), :KSA Abdulaziz Bu Shulaybi (rank: 266) and :JOR Zaid Abo Yaman (rank: 320) being in the top 400.

 

For the women, only 4/11 players have a world ranking. :LBN Mariana Sahakian (rank: 372) leads all athletes with the next highest ranked player being :JOR Baa Al-Wedian (rank: 475). Should she succeed, this would be Sahakian's second Olympics.

 

Of course with rankings this low (due to lack of activity) anything could happen.

To be fair here, I think Zaza's qualification says more about the state of table tennis in Western Asia than anything else. :whistle:
