Just cancel the event or maybe ITF will change their mind quickly and will give points for competing.

The ITF isn't responsible for giving points, it's the ATP/WTA and last I heard (this was years ago) they refuse to give points until the IOC/ITF compensate the major tournaments held during the same week as the Olympics

The IOC really needs to consider dropping tennis. Clearly a lot of the top players don't care about the Olympic tournament.

They do care, but IOC/ITF and ATP/WTA don't make it easy. And Covid is playing havoc with all professional sport. No-one who saw Rafa's doubles win in Rio, Djoks tears when Del Potro put him out, or either of the Murray finals would under any illusion players don't care. Different players have different relationships with it - for both Murray and De Potro, it's absolutely a major part of their legacy, for Djok it's the one last thing he doesn't have. For Roger, it's a national pride thing for a country with limited summer olympic gold opportunities. for some of the Mixed doubles pairs, its validation of their event, for others its just a festival of sport, a cnahnce to rub shoulders with heroes in other sports - (and the lack of fans is undoubtedly putting many off)

At least Novak is IN ?

I guess the allure of being the first man to achieve a golden slam was too strong to resist.

Even with all the withdrawals it's a great field as most of the top 10 players will be there. And with less competition in the early rounds they should all reach the final stages of the tournament.

Since we are approaching the festive holiday season, I want you all to post some festive songs from your country. If you don’t celebrate Christmas then perhaps some other song that has a special place in your heart during an important celebration.     I’m going to start with a Christmas song from Ireland’s TISC Annual 2023 representatives Picture This.     Picture This - This Christmas

    • Juniors were there recently and the track was awful   Although that's not necessarily bad. Tracks don't all need to be fast, a slow track (like the horribly slow one in Poland) simply favors a different style of athletes. Training a lot there doesn't really give much extra advantage though, not like in sliding sports where of course as host country you make sure your athletes know every single meter a year before the Olympics.    And to get back on topic: speed skater Elisa Dul broke her tibia and fibula in a training fall yesterday and will obviously be out of the OQT and so the Olympics.
    • The PSL race in Davos was (yet another) insult to a beautiful discipline. The red course (which was actually yellow) had several holes and an exposed ice sheet, which made the athletes slide way too long, causing DNFs or massive time losses. The only positive note is that Caffont won despite racing on the more dangerous course in the final

    • Not just Erin Jackson, but several others like for instance Joep Wennemars. Think of it what you may, it’s all down to the way the rules are written up. The rationale is probably to prevent that a rider that falls is automatically relegated to the B group.
