Modern Pentathlon Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

Recommended Posts

Missed oportunity for Carrillo to better his position in the ranking.

Nevertheless, 3 Mexicans should be qualified for World Cup final in each gender, so if they give an extra effort they could practically be in Tokyo.

Well this sport is dead in Canada. From having the leading athlete in the women's competition with one event in Rio to no one qualified, sad.

Besides handball, this will be the only sport Canada does not partake in.

We might miss out in karate and surfing

@Vektor is this correct ? Can I add them ?

As far as I know that's not correct, it should be the three medalists.

"Three (3) quota places will be allocated to the three (3) highest placed athletes at the 2020 UIPM World Championships unless previously qualified in which case the quota place(s) will be allocated to next highest ranked athlete(s) on the UIPM Olympic World Ranking List of 1 June 2020."

So it's :BLR  :FRA  :HUN. But Belarus can't have 3 quotas, so they will have to choose, and one of the quotas will reallocated via the Olympic ranking.

I'm not Vektor, but I don't think it really is. Though it makes no difference. Only the medallists qualify directly, so only Clouvel and Gulyas. Langrehr will however qualify through the world ranking, so they are all qualified in the end.

Add those two to the list and have :BLR with two TBDs for both the qualification event and the athlete name until the country makes up its mind.

Btw, the ranking is up: https://www.uipmworld.org/world-ranking/modern-pentathlon/women-senior-olympic-games-ranking-21

Here's what we know (I think): Top8 athletes not already qualified won quotas. Those athletes are...

:GBR Muir

:GBR Summers

:MEX Oliver

:ITA Sotero

:RUS Gubaydullina

:GER Kohlman

:MEX Vega

:RUS Batashova

This is good and all, BUT multiple countries went over the 2 athletes limit, just like Belarus.

:GBR  :MEX  :RUS  :BLR  all have 3 quotas and they will have to choose two.

The next two highest ranked not already qualified athletes are both European, which should mean that they are 100% safe and will get the quotas via reallocation no matter what.

:POL Maliszewska

:TUR Ozyuksel

After this we still got two more quotas up in the air, but it gets messy and we will have to wait to know which quotas will get reallocated, it can go multiple ways, depending on if the countries in question will choose to reallocate their continental quotas or not.

If I’m not mistaken, Mexico already chose Arceo. So one of the quotas by ranking will be reallocated

    • Obviously, like every four years, the usual media circus has kicked off, with Italian politics and the government demanding the FIGC president’s head on a spike. Meanwhile, since the president is also an idiot, he doubled down, saying that football players are the only professionals and that other sports survive on government money. And so, the little theater begins, with the big stars of other sports launching a media storm (rightly so) to insult overpaid football players who can’t even achieve the minimum results. (https://www.ansa.it/sito/notizie/flash/2026/04/01/processo-allitalia-laccusa-di-irma-testa-a-gravinaveri-professionisti-siamo-noi_64c726d6-ad2c-43ff-9679-847b49ac3914.html) A national tragedy, once again. For the third time in a row.
    • They traveled 3 days to go in Mexico and still they qualifed to WC, unbelievable.
    • Agree. I remember when they beat Argentina, 6-1, in La Paz some years ago.
    • Without altitude, this Bolivian team is nothing.
    • Iraaaaaaaq   find transportation was complicated without plane , they even claimed postponing the date    finally they did it
    • in Paris we got 40 medals and 12 golds and we had disappointing campaigns in quite a few disciplines we should have got the 15/50 already 2 years ago and we're on the raising curve in a few sports tbh, as it is right now, that 20/50 target is definitely realistic, maybe a bit optimistic, but realistic
    • there's always the chance to change that just take 5-7% of the Superenalotto prize money and you have fixed the problem (and coni gets more money than ever)
    • Standings after 14 draws, with two days and 6 draws to go     Rank   Team     Games   Wins   Losses 1  SUI - Switzerland     8 7 1 2  SWE - Sweden     9 7 2 3  CAN - Canada     8 6 2 3  SCO - Scotland     8 6 2 5  ITA - Italy     9 6 3 6  USA - United States     8 5 3 7  GER - Germany     9 4 5 8  CHN - China     8 3 5 8  JPN - Japan     8 3 5 10  KOR - Korea     9 3 6 11  CZE - Czechia     8 2 6 11  POL - Poland     8 2 6 13  NOR - Norway     8 0 8
    • beats  2-1 and is the last team to advance to the finals.
    • I think definately with 48 teams it is not too many with 16.   however I can accept that Swedens route was not deserved. The problem (or good for Sweden)  is that they award teams in Europa league C division. Iof we did not fail in the B division we would probably not have won a playoff spot from B league. Maybe a Genius move from our former national coach😂
