Yeah, because they were actually the best ranked teams at the World Championships, so there's a reason for it.
LDOG 2,199 Posted March 15, 2021 #32 Share Posted March 15, 2021 Yeah, I was going to say that. On paper Europe has only one quota, like anyone else. Personally I think 7 EU + 5 rest of the world is a perfect balance, for this sport. Olympian1010
NaBUru38 205 Posted March 20, 2021 #33 Share Posted March 20, 2021 The Olympic qualifiers should have 1-2 teams from each continent.

Which Handball does. There’s at least one team from each of the Olympic regions. “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. JoshMartini007 2,210 Posted March 27, 2021 #37 Share Posted March 27, 2021 Besides basketball (which only gives two spots to Europe and Pan America) and football (which only does continental qualifiers) none of the other team sports gives more than 1 continental spot to each continent. Other than guaranteeing Europe more quotas, handball doesn't strike as a sport that needs to do that. The issue is handball is very Euro-centric which is why you see more European teams at the Olympics, when was the last time more than two non-European nations finished in the top 10 at the world championships? NearPup 2,156 Posted March 27, 2021 #38 Share Posted March 27, 2021 So I checked and 2021 is by far the closest we've ever been to having three non-European teams in the men's handball world championship. Argentina ruined it by finishing 11th.
NaBUru38 205 Posted March 27, 2021 #39 Share Posted March 27, 2021 Rugby sevens gives spots to 6 continents: Africa, Asia, North and South America, Europe and Oceania. Basketball and field hockey give spots to 5 continents: Africa, Asia, Americas, Europe and Oceania. Indoor volleyball also gives spots to 5 continents: Africa, Asia, North and South America, and Europe. Handball only gives spots to 4 continents: Africa, Asia, Americas and Europe. NaBUru38 205 Posted March 27, 2021 #40 Share Posted March 27, 2021 At the 2012 Olympics, the handball tournaments had only 3 non-European teams. That's hardly adequate representation in my opinion.
