Olympic Qualification Ranking as of 15 June 2021

So can we presume the ranking is final now and we can speculate the seeding (even with multiple players in top8/16 we can guess who will be chosen)?

Yes you're right! The seeding for singles and doubles are basically sealed at this point.

They may get it. Wouldn't be surprised if Sweden decline Burestedt's spot

Double starters are in the tournament software ranking. It has the top 40 scheduled to play.

Why would they decline? Tough qualification standard?

5 male doubles players are also qualified in mixed doubles. + unused host quota. makes it 40 instead of 34

@intoronto he is the 3rd reserve, he is next after NZL but only because NZL is getting the Oceania quota. some players above him are also eligible to qualify. NGR and POL. but the Nigeria guy will qualify in men's doubles. so Sri Lanka is in fact the 2nd reserve.

I am not sure... the tournament software ranking is different and labeled as of May 11 2021.

oh yes . I was looking at the wrong ranking.  he is the 1st reserve

and based on previous experiences, we always have at least one or two withdrawals in badminton. even more sometimes. some countries have their own standards.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
