Men's Football Tournament at the Summer Olympic Games 2020

Surely but playing with third level player is not an option when you qualify for the biggest sport event in the world.

I hope an answer will be find but I am very skeptical with french clubs. The federation select only one player from each clubs I guess they will try to defend that idea but it will difficult.

Withdrawing now? That would make the French federation look like idiots, surely they will be able to find 18 players.

There is a preliminary list of 50 from which teams are supposed to select the 18 from but if they are given permission to select from elsewhere then yes, they can't withdraw.

I have news for you: half of the other teams are having the same problem.

I think we are lucky in Spain with this, because Spanish teams are forced by law to allow players to play for the national team, even if it isn't mandatory by FIFA. The final list will be published on Tuesday, but we will have a competitive team with several players that are participating in the EURO. Dani Olmo and Mikel Oyarzabal are a lock, while Eric García, Pau Torres, Unai Simón and Pedri still have chances to make it. Marco Asensio and Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid will be 2 of the 3 players over 24.

Fabián Ruiz was going to be the other over-24 player, but Napoli didn't let him play, same case as Ferrán Torres (City), Rodrigo Hernández (City) and Borja Mayoral (Roma).

:ESP TEAM SPAIN :ESP

Porteros:

Unai Simón (Athletic de Bilbao)

Álvaro Fernández (SD Huesca)

Alex Domínguez (Las Palmas)

Defensas:
Óscar Mingueza (FC Barcelona)

Jesús Vallejo (Granada)

Eric García (FC Barcelona)

Pau Torres (Villareal)

Óscar Gil (RCD Espanyol)

Juan Miranda (Betis)

Centrocampistas:

Jon Moncayola (Osasuna)

Martín Zubimendi (Real Sociedad)

Dani Ceballos (Real Madrid) +23

Mikel Merino (Real Sociedad) +23

Carlos Soler (Valencia)

Pedri (FC Barcelona)

Marc Cucurella (Getafe)

Delanteros:

Bryan Gil (SD Eibar)

Marco Asensio (Real Madrid) +23

Dani Olmo (Leipzig)

Mikel Oyarzabal (Real Sociedad)

Javi Puado (RCD Espanyol)

Rafa Mir (SD Huesca)

These 22 will travel to Tokyo, but 4 of them will be reserves and only play in case of injury of other player.

6 of them (Unai Simón, Eric García, Pau Torres, Pedri, Dani Olmo and Mikel Oyarzabal) are playing in the EURO, and 5 more (Mikel Merino, Dani Cebalos, Marco Asensio, Bryan Gil and Marc Cucurella) have already played for the senior team, so it is a very good team.

So, looks like we have a clear favourite here

Apparently Barcelona has asked Pedri to refuse, but he is willing to play in Tokyo anyways. Barcelona isn't happy with that and they are trying to negotiate with the Spanish federation to liberate him. Let's see what happens.

Hopefully they won't manage to take this away from him..

    • many athletes didn't get their visa 2  Schengen , canada , usa ...do it all the time  it's a new strategy to increase the chance of medals
    • Four  (Duguma, Berha, Kalayu, Siyoum) got denied visas even though they competed in Toruń in Febraury  Must be some Schengen visa rules crap?
    • Yep, I actually think this Schwaller team is only just getting better every single year, and there’s not many viable options at third and fourth in the Swiss women’s curling scene, there’s only some good but not great players.   If Paetz and Tirinzoni both retire before the next quadrennial (likely for Tirinzoni, she said at the end of last year that the recent GSOC event would be her last) then Berset-Witschonke-Howald-Hurlimann is the best you can do and I don’t think the firepower is there. If Paetz keeps going, and it’s Witschoke-Howald-Hurlimann-Paetz then it’ll be interesting, but it’s also hard to predict.
    • The Canucks have started their tank this season and now we’re awful, so I’ll only be watching when the playoffs start  at least we get a guaranteed top 3 pick, but even that probably won’t go our way.   Fencing WC’s are interesting yep, if I can find a stream and if our top fencers are competing or make it to the R16 or further.    Speaking of basketball, I forgot about NBA
