Let's try this again:

Germany :GER

Shooting (including Archery) : 1-4

Swimming, including Open Water: 1-3

Athletics: 2-7

Diving: 0-2

Team Sports (including Beach Volleyball): 1-5

Boxing, Judo, Taekwondo, Wrestling etc.: 2-7

Fencing: 0-1

Cyling (all disciplines): 2-7

Equestrian: 4-7

Tennis/Golf/Table Tennis: 0-5

Gymnastics: 0-1

Pentathlon/Triathlon: 0-3

Canoe (Slalom and Sprint): 4-11

Rowing: 2-4

Rest: 0

Worst Case: 19

Best Case: 67

67+19 makes 86. 86/2 makes an average of 43 medals.

I think usually 40-45 medals is a good prediction for Germany, but with the new sports it should be a bit more.

Swimming: 3 medals isn’t the best case. 3 x Wellbrock + 2 x Köhler already gives you 5 medals and then you also have Beck (open water), Heintz (200 IM) and Muffels (open water).

Fighting sports: Germany might very well win no medals in those sports.

Fencing: Best case would be 2 medals in men’s Sabre.

Gymnastics: Best case would be 2 medals (Dauser and Seitz).

I think Germany could also win 1 or 2 medals in sailing.

Respect Eleftherios!

I am looking forward to watch the rivalry between Petrounias and Colak..I think it will evoke us NAIM and VALERIOS.

Best wishes.

Thank you, hopefully Petrounias can qualify first. He just needs a high score at Doha World Cup, something similar to what he achieved at European Championships this year and he will be in. If he qualifies for Tokyo then I think he will definitely win a medal. He's in good shape now that he's fully recovered from injuries.

Colak was good in 2019 and 2020 but didn't do well at this year's European Championships. Still I think he can win a medal in Tokyo too.

I guess it is possible. But Horne in Karate is a big medal contender, we won several medals at the last Wrestling World Championships and have chances at least in Judo and Taekwondo as well. I just don't think that out of all of these chances we won't win anything.

1-Athletics

1-Gymnastics

1-Sailing

1-Shooting

1-Swimming

3-Others (more of the aforementioned sports, tennis, wrestling, fencing, karate, taekwondo, water polo, cycling, rowing, judo)

In athletics our best chances are Stefanidi and Tentoglou. Papachristou and Tzengko I think also have outside chances. I will say expecting 1 medal in athletics is a fair prediction for us.

In gymnastics, Petrounias is the defending Olympic champion. If he qualifies, he is Greece's best chance to win a medal in any sport. The only reason he hasn't qualified yet is because he missed one year due to injury. Especially with the Games being moved to 2021, he is in a good position now and probably back to his normal level.

In sailing, Mantis/Kagialis won bronze in Rio and I think got 4th at the last World Championships. Karachaliou is ranked 2 in the world and Kokkalanis was close to winning medals in 2012 and 2016. Between these three I think we should expect 1 medal in sailing.

In shooting, we obviously have Korakaki who won two medals in Rio and there is also Mavrommatis and Mitas in the men's skeet who are decent. Shooting is an unpredictable sport but I think it is fair to expect 1 medal from this sport.

In swimming, Gkolomeev is our best chance as he won silver at the 2019 World Championships. We also have Vazaios and Papastamos who are good and have improved a lot. I also think it is fair to expect 1 medal here.

Now for the rest we have some chances like tennis (Tsitsipas and Sakkari), fencing (Gkountoura), karate (Chatziliadou), taekwondo (Telikostoglou), wrestling (Prevolaraki), basketball, water polo, maybe someone in rowing or judo, cycling (Volikakis), or some other surprises in the other sports like sailing (Mitakis), athletics (Kyriakopoulou) etc.

It is hard to predict because we have a lot of people with chances but not many clear favourites. So I will say 8!

These were too optimistic in the end. No medal in sailing (best results were 8th and 9th), no medal in shooting (best results were 6th and another 6th), no medal in swimming (best results were 5th and another 5th), and only two in "others," but we got another two 4th places in athletics, 5th in rowing, QF in tennis, 7th in judo, 7th in taekwondo, another two 8th places in athletics...

If I had to predict our eight medals I would say:

Gold: Eleftherios Petrounias (gymnastics)

Silver: Kristian Gkolomeev (swimming)

Silver: Stefanos Ntouskos (rowing)

Silver: Miltiadis Tentoglou (long jump)

Silver: Stefanos Tsitsipas (tennis)

Bronze: Ekaterini Stefanidi (pole vault)

Bronze: Vasileia Karachaliou (sailing)

Bronze: Maria Prevolaraki (wrestling)

Well I was somewhat close with these.

Petrounias got bronze, Ntouskos got gold, Tentoglou got gold.

Gkolomeev was 5th, Tsitsipas lost in the round of 16, Stefanidi got 4th, Karachaliou got 9th, Prevolaraki lost in the round of 16.

Bonus was that we won a medal in men's water polo which I did not expect.

  • Archery - 2

  • Badminton - 6 (1 Gold)
  • Basket 3x3 - 1
  • Boxing - 3 (1 Gold)
  • Canoeing Sprint - 3 (1 Gold)
  • Cycling Track - 1
  • Diving - 10 (7 Gold)
  • Fencing - 1 (1 Gold)
  • Gymnastics Artistic - 8 (3 Gold)
  • Gymnastics Trampoline - 3 (1 Gold)

Total 89 (ranging 80-98)

Gold 36 (ranging 32-40)

So the actual answer is 38 Golds and 88 Medals. I think my prediction is quite accurate.:p Medals and golds number are both correct for Artistic Swimming, Basket 3*3, Canoeing Sprint, Fencing, Artistic Gymnastics, Trampoline, Rowing and Weightlifting. At least one of medals or golds number correct for Athletics, Badminton, Cycling Track, Diving, Karate and Table Tennis. Sailing and Shooting are beyond estimation while Archery, Boxing, Volleyball and Taekwondo are under estimation. Below is the prediction vs. actual by sport:

  • Archery - 2 vs. 0
  • Artistic Swimming - 2 vs. 2
  • Athletics - 8 (2 Gold) vs. 5 (2 Gold)
  • Badminton - 6 (1 Gold) vs. 6 (2 Gold)
  • Basket 3x3 - 1 vs. 1
  • Boxing - 3 (1 Gold) vs. 2

  • Diving - 10 (7 Gold) vs. 12 (7 Gold)
  • Fencing - 1 (1 Gold) vs. 1 (1 Gold)
  • Gymnastics Artistic - 8 (3 Gold) vs. 8 (3 Gold)
  • Gymnastics Trampoline - 3 (1 Gold) vs. 3 (1 Gold)
  • Karaté - 2 (1 Gold) vs. 2
  • Rowing - 3 (1 Gold) vs. 3 (1 Gold)
  • Sailing - 1 vs. 2 (1 Gold)
  • Shooting - 5 (2 Gold) vs. 11 (4 Gold)
  • Swimming - 8 (2 Gold) vs. 6 (3 Gold)
  • Swimming Marathon - 1 vs. 0
  • Table Tenis - 7 (5 Gold) vs. 7 (4 Gold)
  • Taekwondo - 3 (1 Gold) vs. 1
  • Volleyball - 1 (1 Gold) vs. 0
  • Weightlifting - 8 (7 Gold) vs. 8 (7 Gold)
  • Wrestling - 2 vs. 4

Total 89 vs. 88

Gold 36 vs. 38

NZ to fail miserably at these games. A bullying culture by sports bodies, infighting, mass retirements I could go on and on ?. So all this will probably only reap 8-12 medals. On the other hand it looks like our neighbours Australia are going to bounce back with a bang 40+ for them.

I should just be pessimistic all the time. But honestly at the time it wasn't  looking good at all :d
