Wrestling UWW African & Oceanian Olympic Games Qualifier 2021

Recommended Posts

:GBS Midana qualified too. Amazingly, not a single easy match for Guinea-Bissau. Their opponents today were :EGY:TUN:MAR:ALG:NGR and that's it.

Too bad their only multiple continental gold medalist missed out though.

:GBS Midana for his 4th Olympics :yes he is 36 now but he was a pretty good wrestler in his prime days. probably in top 8 of the world at some point.

btw feel sorry for the Algerian wrestler, he was really devastated at the end but the call was obviously correct and he knew it himself , that was a desperate try

Australia will not have a single wrestler for the first time since Antwerp 1920.

that was the ugliest way possible to qualify ! the RSA wrestler was totally healthy before the match, their heads bumped into each other and the doctors couldn't stop the bleeding. and if you can't stop the bleeding in 4 minutes you lost ! that's it.

but what if the doctors suck ?! :d:mumble: the wrestler will pay the price

Huge respect for Midana, I thought his age has finally caught up to him, but he proved me wrong and earned his spot by defeating decent opponents. Even though he's in an easier to qualify continent, four Olympics as a wrestler is very difficult to do

So this is one of the posters about the Qualifier released like weeks ago.

The interesting thing is the only Oceania athlete in the poster is Rckaela Maree Aquino of Guam, the only Oceania athlete to qualify. So did the UWW knew the results? Or did they decide the draw beforehand? That would be a mystery. Taking nothing away from the Guam athlete but it's kinda funny how UWW knew whom to put ( They could have added Lahnee Aquino too who has more experience - Youth Olympic Games)  than Rckaela

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
    • Today : Jordan 3-0 Egypt  This team will surprise us
    • option no.2 for sure, as it's been all this shitstorm organized by the nhl owners through their embedded reporters   ps not that the north american audience looks really aware of the hockey rules and habits outside the nhl (and around their game, too, since they look not to know that just a couple of weeks ago they played 2 nhl matches on an ice sheet of the exact same size of Milan's olympic arena)
    • Are we supposed to take Daly's word for it or is this just public posturing to try and shame the Milan organizers (which they certainly deserve for all the delays) in order to threaten NHL participation?
    • Well that was a disappointing opening ceremony. Not to mention the boss is late too...   Anyway this is another victim of bureaucracy, the initial creative director quit in October and we get this kind of show.   Original plan: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/17EVayTpig/
    • Japan missed their last shot with hammer in the 10th last night against the Philippines for them to stay alive.  USA's remaining 2 games are against Philippines and Netherlands, so they have a tough road ahead, although they've already beaten Japan, so that helps for tiebreaker purposes.
    • They have already beaten Japan, so a win would them in a strong place.
