The time frame for "generation" is very loose and can easily be manipulated. Reminds me how USA promised to grant Philippines independence but later claimed "they were not ready" so kept the colonization in tact until WWII finally swept the cards from the table and USA had no choice anymore. Since Scotland was mostly pro-EU I guess Brexit has also altered the possible agreements. Anyway, it clearly shows how "independence" can be manipulated within democratic politicial frames.
