Happy 107th Anniversary Czechoslovakia :cheer:

While in czechia people celebrate this historic day, in Slovakia our mentals rulling the governement passed a law prohibiting walking faster than 6 km/h :dunno:

a member of the ruling coalition in Slovakia proposed a law that would set a speed limit of 6 km/h for walking, with the aim of improving safety for pedestrians and preventing accidents with electric scooters.

Still 2 years to the next elections... dear lord and people use to say time flies fast... when this nightmare will finally end

So funny and so sad at the same time

Why didnt they pick Argentina

Before 1948, several locations around the world were proposed as potential Jewish homelands. Among them were regions in Uganda, Argentina, Cyprus, and even parts of Soviet Crimea — each reflecting a different political vision and historical moment.

These proposals, discussed during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, reveal the complexity of Zionist debates and the global search for a secure homeland amid persecution and displacement. While only one proposal became reality in Palestine, the others remain fascinating “what if” chapters in modern history.

A really fascinating anachronism that arose from this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_Autonomous_Oblast

Election day in :USA today. This is an off year election, which means mainly local elections (my ballot here in Washington state was extremely local).

The big mayoral election everyone is talking about is New York City, where Zohran Mamdani is expected to win. The big suspense is whether or not he gets over 50% (not important electorally but very important psychologically). Seattle also has a very interesting mayoral race between two Democrats, incumbent mayor Bruce Harrel is being challenged from the left by Katie Wilson.

The big events are the gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia. It would be a political earthquake if Democrats Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger (both former US House memebers) fail to win. New Jersey, which was unexpectedly close in the 2021 gubernatorial election and the 2024 presidential election, is probably the state to watch tonight.

    • fencingtv.com   now it's all there (needs registration, but for now it's free of charge, so it's still OK)
    • many athletes didn't get their visa 2  Schengen , canada , usa ...do it all the time  it's a new strategy to increase the chance of medals
    • Four  (Duguma, Berha, Kalayu, Siyoum) got denied visas even though they competed in Toruń in Febraury  Must be some Schengen visa rules crap?
    • Yep, I actually think this Schwaller team is only just getting better every single year, and there’s not many viable options at third and fourth in the Swiss women’s curling scene, there’s only some good but not great players.   If Paetz and Tirinzoni both retire before the next quadrennial (likely for Tirinzoni, she said at the end of last year that the recent GSOC event would be her last) then Berset-Witschonke-Howald-Hurlimann is the best you can do and I don’t think the firepower is there. If Paetz keeps going, and it’s Witschoke-Howald-Hurlimann-Paetz then it’ll be interesting, but it’s also hard to predict.
    • The Canucks have started their tank this season and now we’re awful, so I’ll only be watching when the playoffs start  at least we get a guaranteed top 3 pick, but even that probably won’t go our way.   Fencing WC’s are interesting yep, if I can find a stream and if our top fencers are competing or make it to the R16 or further.    Speaking of basketball, I forgot about NBA
    • because of schedule , after 1 month of fasting , Things could be better for africans 2 weeks later
    • Always a 6 week lull between the end of the full Winter Sports season and the Summer Sports season gets going in early May.  OK, there is stuff going on, but not three or four things a weekend.
    • Only a few Ethiopians, hardly any Kenyans, no Ugandans.....
    • LOL worst results for  Africa  , 2 bronze only  in triple jump men/women ...nothing in middle distances , strange
