I don't mean I don't believe you (I'm guessing a Slovak knows more about Slovakia than me :p ), I just thought it was interesting to see that on a national mourning day gambling isn't allowed. Just because I don't really understand the connection between mourning and not being allowed to gamble (it's like closing restaurants and things like that).

So to be clear: no disrespect, I just found it interesting :)

´well, I assume because SVK is almost a second Vatican...you know Gambling is a evil :d

no, I don´t know exactly the reasons, but it´s in our laws. if you click on any betting website like this http://www.ifortuna.sk/sk/stavkovanie/ or this https://live.nike.sk/odstavka/mobile/index.html you´ll find message that according to law the betting is unauthorized because of mourning day.

btw in Slovakia gambling is unauthorized also during Easter Friday and Easterd Sunday the whole days and first Christmas day as well, it´s in our laws :d

Am I seeing it right that his coffin is being driven around on a piece of artillery? :p

exact. Slovak president is automatically also the supreme commander of the slovak army, so logical :dunno:

That's actually not unusual.

If my coffin was driven around on artillery, I think it'd be pretty damn awesome :p

These kind of big funerals here only happen with the most important members of the royal family. Usually the horse thingy with the coffin arrives at the "Nieuwe Kerk" (New Church) in Delft then, where it's unloaded and after a ceremony in the church (live on TV) it's being carried down under the church where the "burial chambers" are:

Today there is a State Dinner between USA and Italy in Washington. Obama will host the Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and his wife, Roberto Benigni (actor and oscar-winner), Paolo Sorrentino (film director and oscar-winner), Bebe Vio (Italian paralympic athlete and gold medal in Rio 2016), Raffaele Cantone (President of the Committee on Anti Corruption), Giorgio Armani (stylist), Giusi Nicolini (Lampedusa's Mayor), Paola Antonelli (director of the MOMA museum) and Fabiona Giannotti (Cern's director).

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
