[OFF TOPIC] Politics Thread

You know the left-wingers are totally scared if The Guardian runs such a story. But it's now wonder, Joe Biden is 78 years old and seems like a total stopgap President with no real value on the international scene. It's gonna be four years of negating Trump's ideas on the internal market while China just keeps on going on the global stage. It's gonna be hilarious if Biden actually supports Trump's strict anti-Chinese policy

What a festive moment, four years of insanity and a presidency based on nothing but lies, obscure bullshit and the idea of making himself a god is over, on to four hopefully boring, normal years :d

Too bad Trump and his creepy family have insane amounts of highly secret knowledge by now, there is no way in hell they are not going to use that for their own gain, as they've been doing with literally everything in the past four years.

Also, it was promised four years ago, but 'Drain the Swamp' can now finally sort of begin, because in the past four years the swamp only got filled more and more

And of course Mr Corrupt changed some executive orders to make sure certain people can actually keep lobbying, something he himself was against until it could be used in his favour.

First time in ages Melania Trump is actually smiling, I guess she is happy she's almost done with all this crap and can go and lead her life :d

Wow, and she even talked a bit. Don't think I've ever heard that before :d

Highlights of his final speech: "Me, me, me, lies, tremendous, greatest, lies, miracle, they're calling it a miracle, greatest, amazing, me, me, me."

The dying ramblings of what is - among experts - unanimously seen as the single worst president in history. It's been...quite a ride.

Interesting statement, which sums it up pretty well. American liberalism has always seemed too 'Conform, or else!' for my liking.

I am just glad that people won't be able to blame him for everything anymore, I got really tired of it after a while. It must be a sad day for the American news media, Biden is pretty much the most boring president ever, their ratings will plummet.

If Fascism comes to America...conservatives will elect it. They already did once.

Trump didn’t start war, but he tired hard as hell to start one with Iran. He pulled the US out of WHO (and refused to join a global research effort to stop Covid), the Free Skies Treaty, the Paris Climate Accords, etc. His border policy separated children from their parents, and put them in cages. He endorsed white supremacy movements throughout his presidency.

    • @hckošice Do you agree with me to some extent, or am I hopelessly dreaming?
    • Interesting forecasts, I like 'em! I think the US wins the most medals, but Norway tops the standings (most golds)... have Germany neck-and-neck with Norway for medals, but fewer gold.    Then have Canada and Italy fighting it out for 4th in 5th   Then have Sweden, Austrian, Japan, Netherlands and France rounding out the top ten, with them all within a medal or two of each other. Of course reality will differ significantly
    • A huge day for the very young Italian Bertini: despite a very tough draw, he beats Szilagy in the round of 16 and Gu in the quarterfinals! First career podium for him!
    • Time for more personal and detailed predictions:    will have it hard this time.   I'm trying to stay realistic about our chances. We're not going there as favorites in most events, and deep down I know it would be a big surprise if we suddenly overperformed or even dominated. Still, sports have a beautiful way of ignoring expectations.   We're never predicted to do amazingly well at either edition of the Olympics, so I’m desperately hoping for moments that will stay with everyone in the country for years, whether it's a final that keeps people glued to their screens or a performance that will make us proud. Just one medal could mean so much. It would bring real emotions and something to cheer for to a country that isn’t going through its best period right now. And on the rare occasion of a hockey miracle, celebrations in the streets wouldn't be an oddity.   It all comes down to four sports, the rest are out of reach:   Alpine Skiing is a big mystery, and it will all come down to Petra, whether she'll compete and eventually shock everyone with a heroic result. That's the best-case scenario. Biathlon can be the dark horse, you never know how things turn around. The women's relay is probably our biggest chance, but all four of them need to deliver great performances. As for Ice Hockey, our national sport, I'll always believe in another fairytale. I'll always believe we'll pull off a miracle. Since I wasn't alive yet when we won gold at the World Championships, I can only resort to watching old videos and imagine how amazing it must have been to watch as your country is the champion of the world in something. Best on the planet. Even the silver years later was amazing, but I was too young to actually remember it, so it's time for another hockey euphoria in the country. Ski Mountaineering is a bit overlooked in the media right now, but I believe we have a huge chance of winning a medal in one of the events. Our athletes aren't minnows.   We're a small country, still relatively young. There's not much we're known for in the world, but sports are a perfect way to build a national identity, to stop people from thinking you're still part of a state that ceased to exist decades ago. Doing well in sports is one of the few things these lesser-known countries can show off, not just the ones in Europe.   I'm desperately hoping for a medal, and we all want those two weeks of the Olympics to be amazing and full of unforgettable moments.
    • Never wanted a prediction to be more right
    • Two weeks before the Games officially begin, time to give my final predictions on the medal standings.     will beat  and win the medal table at the WOG for the first time in 100 years. All the (absurd) retirements of elite Norge athletes last season will have its consequences and they will drop to second.    will my bold pick to return to the top 3 after their horrendous Beijing performance, when it comes to Gold medals.     Germany will slip down and will have less than 9 golds for the first time in 50 years. Depending on how the chips fall in some sports, they could even be outside the top 5.   Home team of  will have their best Olympics in some, better than Torino, but it still won't be enough to get into the top 5.
