And while I am complaining about us not reaching the Top4, this is still historic. This is the first time ever that our women's sabre team qualified for the Olympics. And the "core" of our team, Márton (25) and Pusztai (19) are still young.

Changes in women's sabre from Rio:

Kept the quota: :RUS  :FRA  :KOR  :ITA  :USA

Gained the quota: :HUN  :CHN  :TUN

Lost the quota: :POL  :UKR  :MEX

Historic quota for us. Bhavani Devi is India’s first ever Olympic fencer.

Special shout out to @Prashanth for believing in Bhavani Devi and tracking her for past 4 years.

Very weird results in women’s team. When you look at the individual results, France, Russia and Hungary should be clearly the best, but in reality Poland and Italy made the final.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

This is fencing. Anything can happen unless you are OH Sanguk.

Told ya, different day. Especially in our case anything is possible. We can beat anyone, but we can also lose to anyone. Today we were very nervous, and I am guessing (I haven't watched the match) our girls weren't there mentally anymore against Japan now that they got the quota. Really messy day for us. The pressure was huge on Pusztai, she must have been really afraid of missing out on the Olympics.

the most beautiful thing about team events in Fencing is that the results are not a pure addition of individual values...

this kind of team relay is totally different from the old method...

you need just another mindset than in the individual events and in the old team format...you just can't afford any blackout without damaging your team...

Even after a long COVID break the men's sabre team event is predictable as always so far. :d

Now France v Germany and Italy v Russia can decide the quota.

Meanwhile the Hungarian girls "proved" that they deserved the quota over Ukraine by beating them for the 7th place. It would have been more clean if we actually beat them for the quota on a match deciding the European spot, but that rarely happens in this qualification system.

    • changes that go absolutely against the Italians (notoriously the top swimmers and not the best shooters in MP) 😭😭😭   now it's really time to axe MP from the Games 😈🥳
    • I think there was a feeling before the obstacle course was introduced that really, really solid endurance runners were starting to dominate - in Triathlon you might call it the Alex Yee conundrum. Personally, I don't mind at all if the 'martial' elements are reemphasised as that is the real 'soul' of the sport - Triathlon, Marathon and Road cycing are there for genuine endurace, MP is in some senses a 'soldiery' test - one reason I thought Judo might have been a better addition than the obstacle course. But placing a higher emphasis on the fight bits over the flight bits seems a legitimate idea - though it should also increase the X-country nature of the run so that the test of a fresh shooter at the beginning is rather different from the test of a knackered one at the end. I quite like the artificial hill in rio.
