Or they can be like Greece's men's lightweight four in 2016, last minute replacement for Russia announced one week before the Games, the crew had never been together before (it wasn't all of the same athletes from the qualification regatta, I think just two of them) and they made Final A (finished 6th though)

Will Lithuania be able to compete despite having no time to prepare?

Obviously team was not preparing for this start and already finished the competitive season.

Regardless, our NOC and rowing federations already announced that almost everything is sorted, apart from getting all documentions approved from Japan's side due short notice.

Wow at this: China is the only Asian country to have won an Olympic medal in rowing

At first it sounds shocking, but then when you start to think about it, it suddenly isn't surprising because I can't remember other Asian countries ever doing well in the sport.

Interesting story in the heats with Ireland's world champion Sanita Puspure going up against Uganda's Kathleen Noble

Her parents left Ireland for missionary work in Uganda a year before she was born. She represented Uganda in swimming at the world short cross championships in 2012 and only took up rowing during her second year at Princeton in the US

She's Uganda's first ever rower at the Olympics
