@hckosice This is the final start list. :JPN Oshigiri, :USA Manganello, :NED Van der Weijden, :CHN Li are not on the final start list, whereas :KOR Kim is.

Looking at the season so far, there are no clear favorites for this event. The favorites are in the 4 final pairs, though. Many women who can win a medal, so this could be an exciting first speed skating event.

Thanks I´ll update it  :yes

I think it will be 1) Sablikova, 2) Wüst, 3) Takagi, but De Jong and Voronina might challenge for bronze as well.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Sablikova has been complaining about back problems, and said she barely trained for 2 months. That sounds like psychological warfare at it's most basic.

but it´s true, this is also the reason why she skipped the Europeans in Kolomna last month

Or she had other priorities, European championships aren't really important.

So, what...? Nobody thinks Achtereekte could snatch a medal?

You will never learn.

Of course she could, but it's more likely she won't :p

My pick is Wust winning the Gold medal, with Blondin and Takagi fighting up to the last skate for Silver and Bronze...

and I pick Pechstein as my "luxus outsider"...

for the Italian concerns, I hope Lollobrigida can make at least the 15th place, but I wouldn't be surprised if she just shows up and ends up last (and by miles), since she's only been talking about the Mass Start in the last 2 years or so...

Cool, Klevchenya is the coach of the Russian speed skaters :)

The person who played second fiddle in one of the most epic performances in Dutch sports history.

    • Thanks for the amazing work on the spreadsheet. If my eye's read correctly you expect  to get a quota in Sprint (M) canoeing . This will be historic, if time permits could you elaborate a bit please. What are the chances we get to hold on to the quota place ? Is their a risk of missing out? Thanks! I don't follow canoeing much so had a hard time simulating the qualification scenarios. Thanks!

    • Although it was a terrible Olympics for Canada, and my two favourite sports (Hockey and Short Track) really didn't work out for us, there were a couple of fun times.    -Women's Pursuit team winning gold because while it was not unexpected at all, it was still a great triumph against an amazing adversary.    -Dubreuil getting a surprise bronze in speed skating 500m.    -Really all of speed skating, Canada and otherwise.    -I really want to say Dubois getting gold in short track, but the whole thing was a mess.    -The last two ends of the men's curling gold medal game.    -Kingsbury getting gold. But it was more relief than excitement, unfortunately.    -I really like the luge relay. Canada was not involved, unfortunately, but it's always fun to watch.    -Men's freeski big air final was nuts! In all the good ways. That was truly the highest level of competition I've seen in a very long time.    -The dog crossing the finish line in cross country, which should have been the meme of the Olympics (not that...other thing).
    • Apparent Gu and Atkin do not like each other at all anymore. They were good freinds a few years ago but now hate one another.  I’m not sure Gu and Li Fanghui like each other either that much.
