This is fantastic. I can't wait for the rants of people who were never going to watch this sport anyway, but feel outrageous by such a long distance between the host city and venue, even though they had never planned to travel there anyway.

"But the time difference!"

Said someone who no way in hell would have watched it even if it was literally the only thing shown on TV for an entire week.

Yeah, I have no issue with surfing being in Tahiti, especially given its importance to the surfing world, but I've always been of the opinion that the Olympics were heading towards a host nation rather than a host city. France is a bit unique in that its borders can be found around the world.

How often do you see announcements like: "X venue will host Y sport. Next step - IOC approval". Even they are unsure about this. :p

Or how often do you see the official organizing committee spelling even the IOC abbreviation in their own language? Then again, it's France, one can be surprised they even have an (somewhat broken) English tweet on this :p

That's not even a huge issue. Events go until midnight at the Olympics, that would make it 1pm Tahiti time, the competition would have already started (weather permitting) by then
