 Cyclist Michael Woods announces his retirement at the end of the season.    Like Roglic, came to the sport as an adult having originally been a track athlete.

Roglic came to the sport having originally been a ski jumper, to be exact

Add another name to the dafuq are you doing list.  5 months before the Olympics so why not. It's not like Austria has a plethora of rising speed skiers, where Venier place in the team would be in question. On the contrary her quota would have been 80% certain.

If the will and motivation to keep training as hard as is required (nearly) every day, there is less sense in trying to keep going...

 / (Sara) Marita Kramer has announced her retirement from ski jumping. Kind of tragic how that has gone. Top of the world before she was 20, even dominating for a short while, then missed the Olympics due to a positive COVID test and that was basically that for her career. As she said, missing that opportunity hit a lot harder than she originally thought and now she made clear thtat she basically didn't have any joy in it ever since.

Simon Pettersson, Olympic silver medalist in the swedish discus throw double in Tokyo, ended his career today with a season best in his very last throw in the annual Sweden Finland Athletics match.
 

He had some tough years without good results, correlating with when he and Daniel Ståhl both left their coach Haftsteinson.

As well as Geraint Thomas,  cyclist Ellen van Dijk also rode her last race today in the final stage of the Simac Ladies Tour in Lichtenvoorde.

The fact that last year Noortje was diagnosed with diabetes will probably have played a part in that decision.
