Well, congrats to Italy, I am pretty sure they will play against Greece because they will close the group stage against Slovakia, which means that they are in control of what the pairings will be, so this draw is the perfect result for them.

Both teams looked beatable based on what I have seen from the match, so I think we can steal the quota from the Dutch girls. But we might also be similarly weak against a stronger team because of COVID and our girls can always shit their pants when they are under pressure, so who knows.

no, we are not in control, because results against last placed teams are not counted...basically it's only about how many goals the Dutch are going to score against France...

and since HUN vs GRE is played before NED vs FRA, the Dutch girls are fully in control of what's gonna happen in the playoffs...

actually this is not new, that was the old rule ,

but I just saw they used the overall GD in the recent European Champs, I don't know maybe they changed it recently :dunno:

European Champs are managed by LEN, this tournament by FINA...

different federations, different rules...

What a strange sport, this scoresheet makes no sense at all.

I thought so

so LEN uses the overall GD while FINA uses the next best team result as tie breaker ?

I checked and back in 2017 Worlds it came to this rule between HUN and ITA, and HUN finished first in the group despite having lower GD comparing to ITA (only because they beat AUS by 1 more goal)

but since that was 2017, 3 years ago, I thought maybe FINA changed its rules too.

btw having different rules for the same sport suck.

Why exactly? It's not like basketball and volleyball are immune to such turnarounds. Quite the opposite in fact.

I agree...but unfortunately it's quite common in team sports (also FIFA and UEFA have different tie-breaking criteria, for instance)...

There is extremely high turnout, and no pollster, politician, or newspaper had predicted it; now they’re all there throwing out data. No one has any idea why people voted, also because it was very technical and almost empty polling stations were expected. It will be interesting to understand whether this is a protest vote against the government or a protest vote against the judiciary.
