don't worry guys...

Italy will never allow Slovakia to win today's game...surely they won't play as hard as if it was a decisive game and most likely we will rest our best girls not to risk any injury, but they will win by some margin in any case...

and if there's some justice up in the sky (I highly doubt, but never say never...), on Saturday Italy and Greece would eventually qualify to the Games at the expense of the unsportsmanlike behaviour of HUN and NED...:pope:

in what way the netherlands behaved anti sports?

italy can go 1st if they beat slovakia by 16 goals, which is quite playable! then say that the netherlands rigged the match, they have no interest in finishing 2nd lol

The 2nd placed team will play against Greece in semifinal, the 1st will play against Hungary. Hungary is stronger.

Well, no. :p

Matches against SVK does not count. ITA has better goal difference against FRA than NED. Italy top the group even if they win by 1 goal.

In the semis ITA will play HUN and NED choosed GRE.

by playing effortless in order not to win with more than a 12-goal margin, so to be sure to end up 2nd in the preliminary group...

do you think the netherlands does not want to face hungary? but i thought the netherlands was sure to finish 1st?

Women's water polo qualifications would work much better with teams already qualified also playing. Or just by using World Championships results.

Using completely uncompetitive teams for draw fixing is just low. But also a proof why women's game still does not deserve 12 teams.

Yes, they should have wasted some much needed extra energy just to secure for themselves a harder path to the olympic games. Sure

But they deserve 12 teams because it's an Olympic team event. Either a team sport deserves to be at the Olympics, and therefore it should have 12 teams, or it doesn't deserve to be at the Olympics at all.

I think it's unfair to automatically give spots to other continents. Six of the eight best teams in the world are from Europe (Spain, Netherlands, Hungary, Greece, Italy, Russia) and it's unfair that two of them have to miss out every year, while China and Australia (and now Canada and South Africa) get free passes.

The European teams really have to earn it. The least they could do is combine Asia and Oceania and make one of China/Australia earn their spot.

    • Assuming Venezuela loses and gives up 4+ runs, Canada just needs PR to lose and give up 9 or more runs in a 9 inning or less game. I hadn't realized one of their games went to 10 innings before. I think it's possible, but we'll have to wait and see.
