Yep. I was going through the rankings of the past years and it's incredible to see how China basically dominates especially the lighter women categories :yikes:

Maybe not always in terms of winning everything, but mostly when looking at the vast amounts of Chinese lifters in the world's top-20 in those weights, incredible.

Well, it's not actually China only. Asia is better in lighter events while Europe (+KAZ/UZB/IRI) are ahead in heavier events, generally speaking.

The US will claim the #1 spot once again anyway, so hold your horses.

I was talking specifically about the weightlifting, but yes i hope they do, even though i'm not so enthusiastic about the US this time like in previous Olympics.

* Some of these athletes who are supposed to get a better medal later tested positive for doping. so I have a feeling IOC/IWF will leave some (or even all) of those medals blank and won't give them to anybody.

    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
