I'm happier with bans of people who basically without doubt actually cheated than with bans for athletes who made a dumb mistake. Correct that she's banned, although 18 months is an exaggeration.

Some athlete for the same substance was banned for 4 years...

I just saw this month's races in Caviahue have been moved to Cerro Catedral (near maybe more-known Bariloche). Curious how it's around there, hopefully conditions are just as rich in snow as they are in Chile (Termas de Chillan) right now, where the entire landscape is absolutely covered in a ton of snow :)

Now I hope the Brazilians aren't leaving for Argentina after the 4 September races..

Unlike Norway, Sweden etc, the Brazilian athletes have to wax their own skis, which in a sense is good, because apart from being athletes, they also learn a great deal about what is actually under their feet :)

At the moment, the one and only Bruna is waxing the new competition skis, only two nights left until the first race, vamos :cheer:

So you're suggesting that athletes from big teams are clueless about that? :p

I wouldn't say clueless, but I do think when waxing your own skis, you learn a little bit more :p

Although in IBU Cups they just drop the skis in the wax cabin and pick it up half an hour later, so not much to learn from that :d

Race day! Freestyle sprints today in Termas de Chillan, which might be the only race ever in which all Brazilian female XC skiers* compete against each other (maybe tomorrow's classic sprint as well but that's not certain and definitely not in Tuesday's 5k F, since Jaqueline Mourão will only compete here to be eligible for the Olympics according to Brazil's rules, meaning she needs one FIS race in South America).

Really curious how things work out, they made some changes in the course only yesterday on the last day of training, resulting in the two downhills all of a sudden being really, really hard and technical. That might bring a big advantage to Mourão, who is by far the most experienced skier of the lot (well and Mika Picin, but she's less of a threat on the uphills and flat parts compared to Mourão).

*Jaqueline Mourão, Mika Picin, Leila Mostaço, Bruna Moura and Gabi Neres

Not long ago there was talk of at least 10 women in these races, last week it would be 7, now there are 6 left who will start the qualifying today (15:00 CET): the 5 Brazilians mentioned above and Claudia Salcedo of Chile.

    • It's good that Argentina is starting to get back on track economically. Every year, all of our alpine skiing teams train in August in Argentina in Ushuaia: "Fine del Mundo", as it advertises itself.
    • The relation of Trump with Russia and, more specific, with Putin is probably the most controversial (being generous) thing of the presidence of Trump, i dont believe the same but is clearly that China help democrats in that election, both are playing their games.   In Argentina the society is clearly divided, the people who are in the left side of the politics, peronist and kirchnerism are very against the goverment, propably the only genuine "rigth-wing" goverment since the recovery of the democracy in 1983. For me and the most part who are in the rigth wing: libertarians, nacionalist and conservatives, is probably the best goverment we see to this days, he made in his first year with a very few legislators in the congress some big and good changes:   1) In the economical: the inflation is only 3% per month since a more of 15% in the last months of the last year, Argentina has now fiscal, financial and comercial surplus-   2) Our country didnt have fighter planes and the goverment buy 24  American F16  -   3) He chances the electoral sistem for a "single ballot" sistem, we have an obsolete electoral sistem that doesnt change from the 19 century and specially, the peronist use for make fraud.   4) In my personal case, he really update the tax sistem for smal/medium profesionals and traders.......and that save us to pay the 50% of our earnings to the state.   With a big expectations in the goverment, its better than i thinked before.
    • It could be better, or it could be much worse, for example, if the accusations that he has been accepting large amounts of money from Russia since 2017 are confirmed. Now let Harris win, which will end Trump's political career and I hope that in 4 years the Republicans will put up someone more predictable.     btw, how is this controversial president of Argentina doing?
    • More predictable is not always better, for me the goverment of Biden was one of the worst of the History of USA and i cant imagine what can happen with even a worse version like Harris is.   I hope, for the contrary, Trump be elected and "may be" the things changes for the better in the world.
    • I once read that Harris had never been to Europe before 2020, when she became vice president. On the other hand, her foreign policy will be more predictable, because it will be a continuation of Biden's policies. That is why I hope Harris wins, although the bookmakers are betting on Trump.
    • Harris is totally green on foreign policy. It will probably be a policy 100% led by Biden's people. Harris' main campaign emphasis is on abortion and women's rights.
    • So much for "everybody's laughing at us if we elect Harris"
    • My favorite tennis tournaments of the year (wta/atp finals)
    • was also invited to the special edition of the Bolivarian Games and seems like  is not participating.
