Djokovic has withdrawn from Indian Wells. He is the first very big name to withdraw in the men's tournament, already plenty have done so in the women's one, including Barty and Osaka.

I don't know if Djokovic intends to play in the ATP finals. If he does then he might play in Paris masters before, but if he doesn't then his season is probably over.

As for Luisa Stefani, whose injury was mentioned here, she had knee surgery to treat it and the long and hard rehabilitation work has started.

Osaka has no business playing tennis right now as she rides the mental health martyr train, Barty pulled out due to crazy COVID protocols at home, if she played IW, her preparations for Australian Open would be affected. The real mystery is Sofia Kenin who has hardly played this season as well.

:BLR Aryna Sabalenka tested positived for covid and won't take part in Indian Wells where she was supposed to be #1 seed.

So, Iga now will be second seed, in Mandatory WTA 1000 tournament, so called 5th Grand Slam!

Not really surprising Emma Raducanu lost her 1st match in Indian Wells in 2 straight sets against Sasnovich

Turns out a month of movie premiers, celebrity parties & signing “influencer” deals is not the best way to maintain sporting consistency, to everyone’s surprise.

Yeah, the honeymoon is over. Raducanu has a target on her back and no longer can play the underdog card.

Btw, Sasnovich only has three Top 50 wins all season (vs injured Serena Williams at Wimbledon, vs Podoroska at Cleveland and now vs Raducanu in Indian Wells).

Despite her early loss in Indian Wells, Maria Sakkari will move up from her current ranking of number 9 to a new career-high.

She is guaranteed to be at least 8 in the next rankings, and will be number 7 as long as none of Swiatek, Pavlyuchenkova, Jabeur win the title in Indian Wells.

Also with Svitolina having to defend her WTA Finals finalist points from 2019 soon, and Muguruza having her 2020 Australian Open finalist points coming off at the beginning of next year, Maria is on a good path to be top 5 after the Australian Open. It will also help a lot if she can have some more big runs between now and then.

    • It's all hogwash especially in the short attention span generation. Like nobody cares about Free Tibet anymore either. Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. The only time they qualified was from the Asian zone and they only beat Australia & New Zealand who were complete nobodies in the 1960s. No such luck in the 60 years since.
    • Oh I assure you FIFA dodger a bullet with Israel not qualifying…   But ya that’s kind of the thing, shut up and dribble is a mantra anti LGBT people have used often. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to remind them of their position
    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default? Somehow I feel this won't be met with similar backlash when China clamped down on 'Free Tibet' in 2008 OG. Saudi Arabia is more important to global markets than Iran & Egypt
    • Wisła Płock just assumed 1st position after five consecutive draws. Must be first time ever a team on a five match winless streak actually moves up to league top.
