Biathlon IBU World Cup 2020 - 2021

Recommended Posts

I will not say anything about our performance today because I don't want to see this post as deleted later...

Day to forgot. Surely tomorrow we will have better results because it can't be worse as it was today.

Just because he has a Polish surname, doesn't mean you can claim him

It's not just a Polish surname. He was born in Polish family, he speaks Polish, he even was active in Polish community in Vilnus. Of course I'm not saying that he should change nationality or something, but it's not just a name ;)

So..

I Just finished to read the reactions of our both girls who started yesterday.

They didn't know what to expect, very small experiences in this event, Horvátová never run a 15km individual before, and suddenly hop both were thrown into a lion's hole in the world cup, without their physiotherapist or coach. Plus, with lousy start numbers with the task of not losing much and trying to limit the damages in the nations cup...

They both knew that if they wanted to at least get closer to the goal, they needed to shoot extremely well with as few mistakes as possible.

and they succeeded. Only one miss from the 40 targets (Horvátová the very last 20th shot).

They were so happy with their shooting, sadly Biathlon is a sport composed of 2 different sports

and in the latter they struggled extremely.

Veronika Machyniaková despite perfect shooting had only 2 girls who were slower on the track yesterday...

Both will have to start in the sprint today ! Gonna be hard for them after yesterday, but again there is too much in the game to just give up :(

Hell Kudos for the girls to fight with this pressure. but in other hand with such skiing I start to think if it would be really fair and deserved to qualify a relay to the games

We only have two, what are we gonna do guys?

Does anybody know a Russian in need of citizenship for next year, just in case we qualify to the Olympics?

What about that class shooter / weekend skier you already have? Jesi- something. :p

Already quit.

so she joins the lovely list of these ladies that left the team during their junior/youth career

Lina Kreivenaitė

Liudmila Kolosova

Anastasija Baranovskaja

Aliona Sabaliauskienė

Olga Tatarinova

Olga Derendiajeva

Gabrielė Keinaitė

Karolina Banel

Marija Kaznačenko

Gaudvilė Nalivaikaitė

Kotryna Vitkūnaitė

Alina Tuzikaitė

Vitalija Kutkauskaitė

Nadezda Derendiajeva

Rūta Banytė

Darija Jankauskaitė

Kamilė Jakubauskaitė

Raminta Dindaitė

Ana Jesipionok

Viktorija Augulytė

So yeah, the only female biathlete that we have from the past 12 years of junior and youth competitions that is still active today is Gabrielė Leščinskaitė and that's why our women's team absolutely imploded.

I suppose as long as the Fialkovas are active you just have to pretend there is depth for the sake of the relay? Wheels will only come off once Fialkovas retire?

    • In a country as big as , the odds of Olympians being close to you are quite small; however, once I realized several months ago that even a state as small as mine hosts Olympians on occasion, I decided to scour each sport's calendar to make sure I caught them when they come around.  That led me to the middle of nowhere in my own state today, where there was a 4* Eventing competition, featuring a couple of Olympians and/or World Champion athletes.   Most all the athletes here were local or from USA, but there were a couple who compete for   or .  When we walked up, I had no idea what I was doing.  I thought I was in the right arena at the venue, but I didn't really see anyone there.  (There weren't any stands full of spectators, nor did I see any judges...it was time for dressage.). One of the ladies turned around and we struck up conversation.  Turns out I was in the right spot, and they were just on a short break.  She directed my attention to the upcoming athlete, Caroline Pamukcu.  Thanks to my research ahead of time, I knew she was on the Paris 2024 Eventing Team.  The lady we were talking with was the owner of the horse Caroline was riding.  After she finished with her dressage round, she got off the horse and was just standing there talking with her crew.  We went over and had a brief chat and one of the other ladies offered to take our picture.     I asked Caroline if she was aiming for LA28, and she said yes.  I've also since shown the girls and wifey the video from her Paris 2024 jumping competition.  Hope she makes the team this year!   (Caroline has a Gold Individual Eventing and Silver Team Eventing medal from the 2023 PanAms.  Boyd Martin from the Paris team was also there, himself having a WCh Silver and three gold PanAms.  Tamra Smith, who has a Silver from the 2022 WCh, was there as well.  Waylon Roberts, who represents  and has a PanAm Silver competed.  I saw a few more Dressage rounds, then watched them all do the Jumping.  Didn't get to see Cross-Country, but they'll have another similar event in October.)
