Wrestling Qualification for Summer Olympic Games 2016

Recommended Posts

ok we have two changes, two wrestlers are added, surprisingly for me, not the names I heard about few hours ago.

they are Iliyan Georgiev (BUL) at 75 and Sulyeman Demirci (TUR) at 98.

btw we have 139 wrestlers in Greco-Roman, 95 from Europe, 30 from Asia, 13 from Pan-American, 0 Africa and just 1 from Oceania !

Sourian out :yikes:

Does this mean his chances for the Olympics are now entirely gone? Or can he participate in the 2nd tournament?

How does the repechage system work here? :mumble:

Normal repechage system for getting the two bronze medalists. Then those two fight for the olympic quota.

Thanks! Although I'm not exactly familiar with the repechage system used and its hard to find it while on a phone :p

If you lost against an eventual finalist you go to the repechage?

    • sorry bud,Ceh planned to compete here aswell before pulling out at the last minute, your view is just not supported by.....litereally just about any elite male discus thrower,[and plenty of elite female throwers,Valarie competing at Ramona and sayng that she plans on coming back fully legitimizes this for them]except maybe stahl who congratulated Mykolas last year anyway despite his ex coach throwing a fit.so even he clearly doesn't care all that much,Also mykolas threw over 70 meters three times in europe last year, everybody else not being able to do it is not his problem.

    • The argument against it was that the existing body had a full programme from cadets to youths to underage while world boxing had not a single mention of any tournaments under the “elite”   While I didn’t agree with the vote, I don’t think their worries were unfounded
    • Crazy that there should even have been a debate but I get the impression that all sports in Ireland are governed with simmering cauldrons of ancient rivalries dating back to the cattle-raiding era.

    • Here’s hoping he can be the first person in history to make the Golden Slam in golf by winning Olympic gold in LA!
    • Two of those were close.  Palmer was second three times at the PGA Championship and won the other 3, Watson was second once at the PGA Championshp and won the other 3. Norman only ever won the Open (Twice) but was second multiple times at each of the other 3.    Back in their era Golf was a bit less predictable than it now where it’s no longer surprising if someone wins a tournament one year and finishes 40th or something the next. (As the 2023 winner Jon Rahm did last year) If someone does that in any other sport it’s still rather surprising. (Even in tennis).
