Our boxer is facing World and Olympic champion Katie Taylor... she'll need a judges miracle to defeat her

Isn't she qualified for Rio?

No, she isn't; and when the draw was out and she was on Katie's path, I was sure the only option for Mexico was USA advancing to semis, but now that's impossible

I am very sad for Sarah Scheurich. Her only chance to qualify here was to reach the semifinal, because the girls from Sweden and Russia who finished ahead of her at the continental qualification tournament didnt compete here (very clever decision, but bad for Scheurich) and she had to fight against Shield from the US (number 1 seed) in the second round ...

I hope that we get at least one quota place on the womens side, considering how unlucky we have been so far.

Edit: I just found out that our best chance for a quota place has to fight against a girl from Kazakhstan in the quartefinal, so its time to say goodbye to the quota place, although she beat the number one seed in the last round.

Didn't Taylor recently get beaten in a huge upset as well? :p

Expected loss for Nimani, she wouldve deserved to be in Rio, but the draw killed her. In the end we will probably qualify more athletes for Rio all sports combined than i expected, but not the athletes that i wanted to qualify. My dream wouldve been to have about 300-350 athletes in Rio, we will have more in the end, but many athletes/teams who shouldve qualified didnt qualify.

    • I still shocks, that a country of 4-5 million inhabitants? can be a powerhouse in almost every winter sport + handball, football (most recently with Haaland) and athletics: Ingebrigtsen, Warholm, etc. With such a small population, they can't be missing out on any major talent, surely? This must be the best training system in the world...
    • FIFA announced the stadium and time for each match   for  Iran, it will be 2 matches in LA (and not just 1) and 1 in Seattle and luckily we avoided playing in Canada. absolutely nothing against the country, but there are just too many douchebag Iranian groups in Vancouver trying to mix everything with their stupid politics. it's better to stay away from them.   that can happen in US too but less likely. playing in LA is more like playing at home, at least I hope so. 2022 Qatar was a disaster from our point of view, hopefully this one remains only about football.

    • I don't think he'll mind too much
    • But his time isn`t valid at track record.
    • Vladimir Semirunniy dropped a 12:28 in the 10000m B division, which qualifies him for the Olympics as the fastest time this season (with the big asterisk that it was done in a quad start). Must be a real relief for the Polish team given he isn't looking likely to qualify for the 10000m (or the 5000m) by ranking.   Really problematic that they rank pair start and quad start times together, but whatever.   Also, the Wikipedia page for qualification is updated through the second day.
