AIBA has confirmed the continental quotas. We have two changes. In the -56kg Morocco withdrew meaning Ghana qualifies and in the +91kg Tunisia withdrew meaning Cape Verde qualifies.

The document still has South Africa down as qualified in the Men's -49kg and -52kg, yet their selection policy states that continental quota will not be accepted. Have they changed their minds, or will these be reallocated at a later date?

If RSouth Africa reject both quota Kenya (-49) and Lesotho (-52) would qualify.

I assume South Africa boxing is going to fight the decision which is why they sent boxers to the qualifiers in the first place (the tournament served no purpose outside of qualifying athletes to the Olympics). In the end South Africa’s Olympic committee will probably withdraw the athletes.

Very sad news. Robert Harutyunyan wont participate in Baku. His family is from Armenia and he said it would be too dangerous for him in Baku, considering the current conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

His brother Artem is already qualified and it was their dream to compete together in Rio.

http://www.abendblatt.de/sport/article207451033/Robert-Harutyunyan-verzichtet-wegen-Konflikt-auf-Olympia.html

Araik Marutjan for the same reason wont compete in Baku, but he will be allowed to compete at the qualification tournament for pros, because he competed in the APB last year unlike Harutyunyan.

Edit: This might also be the reason why armenian athletes were so good at the first qualification tournament, AIBA didnt want to have them in Baku. 5 armenian boxers in the semifinal, 4 of them qualified, at the last european championships they only won 1 bronze medal ...

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

This crap again

Why on earth does AIBA give a tournament this important to a country that apparently can't even guarantee the safety of the participants...well the answer seems obvious of course.. $€

    • Agreed. But OTOH, the chances of a Male Team pursuit medal also seem rather slim at the moment, so why the hassle of dropping someone.
