This is interesting that countries announce official target for the Olympics, they never do such things in Iran, predication maybe but promised goals no. this time they are talking about winning 4-6 medals !!! back in London they were talking about the same number of medals but we ended up winning 12 :d they always just want to lower the expectations.

:INA 2 gold medals :INA

That's what the NOC and the government targets..

Badminton Federation targets 2 golds and Weightlifting Federation targets 1 gold

Gold in weightlifting ?? I don't think so with all those Chinese weightlifters around, medal yes but gold no

even though I would be happy if somebody (beside North Korea) breaks Chinese monopoly in lighter weights here.

When will all of those Chinese scumbags get caught? I don't think anyone doubts the fact that they are heavily doped (and that doping is a state policy)?

If the lights light up exactly at the correct moment, he was definitely first, since his light went on first. Not sure if those lights are 100% accurate though?

I'm just reporting what they said haha

Of course it is too ambitious. We didn't win a medal in 2015 World Champs, and China and North Korea are certainly better than us. All of our medals will be from badminton.

India won 6 in London, now your country cand duplicate that?

Our Sports minister Sonowal   has talked about the 10 medals

"From whatever inputs I have got from the various sports federations, there is a strong chance of India bagging more than 10 medals in Rio. The preparations are going on in full swing and the government have put forward every effort to ensure that the medal tally goes up," Sonowal"

But he has already been replaced  before Rio ................................

Yea I don't think that is realistic. More like 4-8, should be ideal for India.

My list - I think between 4- 10 medals is realistic as non of them are really favorites or even most likely medallists barring Jitu Rais two events where he is ranked 2 and 3 respectively

Top 20 Medal chances for India( this is in no order )

1. 50m Prone - Gagan Narang - Medalllist last year in one of the Fort benning world cups 2015  , has the big occasion temperament

2. 10m Air rifle(m) - Abhinav Bindra - Big occasion shooter , is showing signs of a return to form ( in baku world cup was leading finals after 2 rounds  by a big margin ), a gold medallist has the temperament to shoot ( only a fool would say that Abhinav cannot medal in Rio..... In case any of you want to dispute that :d )

3. 10m Air Pistol(m) - Jitu Rai - Bronze medal at the chongwon world cup - consistently has been in finals - One of Indias top hopes

4. 50m Air Pistol(m)- Jitu Rai - Currently Ranked world number 2 in this event , silver at the world championships - a class act

5. Skeet(m) - Mairaj - The only Indian who won a medal at the Rio World cup this year - currently ranked world no 4 ( never thought we would have a skeet prospect )

6. 10m Air rifle(w) - Apurvi - broke the world record last year , last years world cup final silver medal

7. Womens Badminton - Sania Nehwal - world championship silver medallist , in good form

8. Mens Hockey Team - Last two major tournaments - Silver and Bronze

9. Tennis Mixed Doubles - With Sania in the team we have one of the best women's players with a very small field just two good matches and you are in with a medal

10.Boxing - Shiva - A medal at the world championship .......

11. Boxing - Vikas - Indias finest boxer reached quarters of the world championship , is a world championship medallist

12. Wrestling - Narsingh - The only indian till now to win the olympic quota at the world championship , shows his class

13. Wrestling - Yogi- Missed the world championship due to injury but his form at the asian qualifiers was fearsome

14. Wrestling - Vignesh - Awesome form at the last qualifiers , again her form was so good

15. Archery womens team - Current world championship silver medal , has consistently been medal-ling

16. Archery womens individual - Deepika is a true championship so many medals  , was immature last time in her first olympics , now is more mature

17. 10m air pistol ( w) - Heena Sidhu has been ranked world number one in 2014 was in fine form in the run up to the asian qualifiers

18. Womens weightlifiting - Mirabhai Chanu in the 48 Kgs has lifted 192 which puts her in the elite list of top 3-4 weightlifters, she has been consistenly improving in the last few months and I feel will reach the level of 194 or so at Rio ..that should fetch her a medal with some luck

19. Womens Vault - The fast improving Dipa Kramakar came 5th at the world championship , she has been getting a lot of support and will improve further , a medal prospect  in gymnastics

20. Womens Badminton - PV sindhu - two times world championship bronze medallist is definately a prospect

    • 2 things...   first, for what concerns the cooperation between inline skating and speedskating federations...sorry to disppoint some of you, but there's a great cooperation between them   the point is that many "summer" skaters just don't want to try the ice because they have too much to give up for that   you name places like Collalbo or Baselga, but for the "summer skating" guys from centeral and southern regions it's not an option, it's not that they make it for a living with those disciplines, they have to focus on their studies and build a post-competitive sport career and they just can't place themselves into a hole in the mountains when they maybe are studying in some prestigious universities in the big cities   as I already posted more than once, the idea of covering one of those tracks in the mountains was something idiotic, a political concession impossible to be sustained   the one and only chance to build a true legacy and an efficient, attractive national training center was to build a permanent indoor oval in Milan, beside the Forum   that would have given all the "summer skaters" a true opportunity to try the ice experience and at the same time find the most useful, attractive, prestigious places to continue their studies and try and manage them together with their sports career   any other place wouldn't stand a chance   second...don't give Salvini any credit he doesn't deserve...actually, I think he doesn't even know that in Cortina there's a sliding sports track    it's not thanks to him that the Cortina track's building finally went underway
    • c'mon, guys! relax! sciallatevi un po'!    you're making me sick...it's just the season start and this is a sport where only the world championship (and Olympic, in the specific years) medals count   don't get mad for a couple of races held thousend miles away from home after the team had already passed their first climax (the internal selection)...there are still 2 full seasons before the Olympics

    • very poor performance by the US bullpen both Yesterday and Today    not very impressed by this US team for the entire tournament, also in the Mexican first group (Panama deserved to qualify more than them, but they were lucky with the draw and won the decisive direct matchup)   Venezuela confirmed themselves as a very strong team at bat, but with too many troubles on the mound   Today against Japan they had to make a pitching change already in the 1st inning and basically they had to go for a bullpen game, but it didn't come out like the Dodgers'   Japan always on top of their game, even when the pitching staff doesn't perform at best...frankly, they look more and more unbeatable when no MLB superstar is involved (like in this case), but also when it comes down to the top of the pops it's not that they look worse (see 2023 WBC)  there's a serious risk that their domination becomes even too easy, the gap between them and the rest of the world is widening year after year   Taiwan might look like a surprise, but after the 2023 fail, I was sure they were going to rebound and establish themselves among the top teams in the WBSC tournaments, as they are very good in each and every aspect of the game (batting, pitching...maybe a bit less on defense, but you can't have it all)
