Shooting qualification not being broadcast is a bit of a joke imo, especially in the team events (where qualification has such a high importance)

And IIRC, for Rifle 3 positions, only 1 position will be in Finals, so without qualies, you never see the other 2.

I sent ISSF a message a while back letting them know that I hope they could televise them.

I sent CBC a email asking if it’s possible, we’ll see what response I get.

HBO Max is another one

Here's hoping! :fingers:

Sadly, I don't have high hopes. The way they disabled fast forwarding for Paris 2024, and didn't change it the full two weeks.

Strange they don't. It's just a few more OBS feeds to add to all the others.

actually, 3-position rifle finals feature all 3 positions since the 2020 Olympics cycle

however, I agree that they should broadcast the qualifying rounds too

it's not impossible, the national tv of Malta did it once a few years ago in a world cup stage

No, they just changed starting this year to feature just standing in finals.

For those of us in :GBR with Discovery+, their sports schedule now includes the first few days of the Games, so you can start setting your reminders, saves etc.

Woah, Peacock has official training for both downhill and luge on their schedule :O

(I know this usually gets broadcast in Europe, but I don't remember ever seeing luge official training available in Canada or the US before)

It's easy enough for them to just plug into the video feeds and stream it.  No announcers or any production needed.  Basically just someone to hit a button when it starts and hit another button when it ends.

Peacock is WAAAAY better than CBC Gem and/or their website. I don't care about the celebrities and ancellary programming, but just that they seem to show all the feeds and alternates live, as well as it's far better organized and searchable. And it has it all live and replays.

I gave up entirely on Gem during Paris 2024, cause you couldn't fast forward/skip ahead on replays. It was ridiculous, and they didn't fix it the entire games, so it. much have been intentional. The website video at least worked properly

The NBC TV coverage has gotten much better, and isn't tape delaying everything... but their insistence on shoving narratives and storylines down your throat is still there on the main network. I still remember how they spend an hour hyping up Shriffrin and her big redeption race in the 2022 slalom... then when she wiped out again, focused on her briefly, then cut away and never came back. Nothing else mattered! lol

It's funny how the tables have turned somewhat where 15-20 years ago, it was Americans who wanted the Canadian coverage and now it's the other way around.  And I say about Peacock a lot that even though it's a paid service (remember our TV networks and Olympic committee are not affiliated with the government, so the obligation to provide everything for free isn't as strong), it's $11 for a month which you can cancel right after.  So that means the entry point to get literally everything from the Olympics is as low as it has ever been.

NBC's coverage has evolved a lot in the last decade.  No more primetime embargoes.  Much more coverage on the broadcast network.  And the streaming platform is pretty solid, which is an alternative to the usual over-produced network coverage.  I do remember the Shiffrin race where NBC didn't just focus on her briefly.. they stayed on her for several minutes even though other skiers were making their runs.  I usually can forgive NBC for some of their flaws, but that was a really egregious one that I hope they wouldn't think to repeat, although it would be tougher with no live events in primetime

Well... few years ago it was to much for the German National Broadcaster - for athletics they constantly said 'you can watch everything on the online stream' - but forget to set the stream and streamed nothing.

TV wise, I'd still take CBC over NBC, but NBC has at least made it respectible

Streaming wise, It's perplexing CBC doesn't do a bit better (and it's fine for the general public, it's just sickos like me that want this stuff), it's nothing but regurgitating a few more OBS feeds on top of all the ones they already do.

Of course their entire budget to produce everything in two languages if probably less than NBC spends on lunches, so obviously there is a lack of resources, but it's really just a few simple easy things that could be easily solved, but aren't.
