Wasn't there a rule which stated Olympic qualification events could not be held before than X months before the Olympics? :mumble:

I doubt it, since it kind of feels like ice hockey's qualification is usually like 90% decided by the time the previous Winter Olympics is getting ready for the closing ceremony :p

for the Winter Games it's always been different, but for the Summer Games the previous IOC EB actually stated that the OQP couldn't be longer than 24 months (Judo for instance had to change their ranking in the last cycle because of that)

I’m not sure if it’s a hard and fast rule but it’s absolutely in the 2028 qualification system principles that qualification events shouldn’t be more than two years before the Olympics.

The Group Stage will be finish tonight. Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay are semi finalist, Colombia maybe but they meet Brazil on the last match and the next team in the ranking, Venezuela, meet Paraguay. Colombia got 7 points and Venezuela 4 points. Colombia got +11 in goal average and +4 for Venezuela. These match will be important. Chile who participate at Tokyo 2020 is eliminated.

For the moment, the semi finals are Argentina-Runner up Group B and 1st Group B-Uruguay.

So the olympics.com source is the only one officially stating this is an Olympic qualification event?

no, it's also written in explicit manner in the Copa America rulebook (chapter 2, article 13, sub-article 1)
