The Games haven't began and there is already drama around the hosts. Looks like there is some saga around the selection of Rebecca Mariani to the team, who is the daughter of the technical director from what i saw. :mumble:

yeah, but it's a completely legitimate change

I mean, Rebecca Mariani is young, very good and can play all 4 positions, Romei can only play 2 (marginal) positions and she's been our weak link in the past few years

the team made the semis in the last 2 international tournaments after the change, it was quite obvious that it was coming

and the fact that Mariani is the TD's daughter shouldn't be a point (should have Cesare Maldini ignored his son Paolo when he was the football TD only becaause of their family ties?)

Ah, definitely not saying if it's right or wrong, just saw there was some drama and complaining about the selection. If i was Romei, i'd be complaining too, understandably since she is out of the home Olympics.

sure, the problem are all the social media idiots that started to shout at the usual Italian favouritism, when they hardly know what curling is

This was to be expected, unfortunately...

Can see it both ways.  Normally Curling Teams play as a Four and it is usually best to keep the same Four together.  BUT :GBR won Gold with a team put together by the Federation, not as an organic four so.....

Also, the family thing, but curling is a village/small town sport, so everyone is always more or less related to each other, or neighbours, or friends from school etc etc.

One of the best things Mariani could have done was to kick Romei out of the national team two years ago; her percentages are declining dramatically.
