Why am I not surprised by :BRA:mumble:

Another ridiculous performance from our athletics team. Fortunately, Bonfim and Alison can mask these shameful results as always.

Athletes spend the entire season achieving better results, evolving, and then, when the major championships arrive, they perform mediocrely.

I'm curious what you had expected at this stage in the championships, other than a medal that's already been won? :p

@rafalgorkaStill not as bad as :IND who must be the worst country when it comes to population-to-sport success ratio. Chopra is an outlier but they don't seem to care about anything other than cricket, field hockey and perhaps badminton. I seem to recall there were a few shooters too but that is about that.

Yes. But at least i have a feeling India will improve a lot in olympic sports in next 10 years or sth. But Bangladesh sadly no, im afraid

I've once made a list of 'worst Olympic countries ever' (of course you can't say that as a fact, so it is based on opinion together with numbers) and Bangladesh ended up on top (or bottom, however you look at it) :p

Followed by Bolivia, btw. If you look at population-to-sport success ratio alone, China is also awful, they should win a majority of all Olympic medals with their population, but that's of course not the only thing that matters :p

India at least does have some success in some sports, here and there. To compare them with Bangladesh is a bit unfair: look at the Asian Games alone, 183 golds vs....well, 1.

    • Shades of 1998 with  and  in the same group but this time it's really a terrible draw for the Thistles. I recall Brazil and Scotland played in the same group in 1974 and 1990 too so that's quite a high probabiliy rate.

    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
