France's team has been on the rise for a few years now, but this year especially has shown, that they can challenge the teams around 5-10 in the world.

 

This reminds me a bit about their men's team, which 15 or so years ago had a slump and were pretty average for number of years. Granted i don't expect at all, that France's women's team will reach the hights of their men's team, but the work has been done for them to start challenging for 1/4's at big Championships, after being practically unknown in big women's volleyball on a National level.

You can drop the 'practically'  Not a single Worlds participation since 1974 (ranked 20th) while the men's team was always decent at international level with some peaks here and there (the 80's, the world medal back in 2002).

 

Women's volleyball was for a very long time a afterthought at the federation and was not helped either by the so-called pro clubs who were running on almost 100% foreigners squads.

Victoria Rava was good and French women`s team with her was good in period 2007-2008.
