"

The Brazilian team is 3-1 all-time against Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson, but the Canadians won the last meeting in March.

Canada held the 3-1 lead in the all-time series against the Swiss heading into the semis, but the latter team won the most recent meeting earlier this year."

I was rooting for the Aussies today, but they came up just short against the Brazilians. Still, the Canadians are playing great so anything is possible. If the Aussies took them that far, the Canadians have it in them to go even farther.

Here's the situation with three days remaining, comparing to 2020.

Sport 2020 2024
Athletics 6 3
Boxing - 1
Canoeing 2 -
Cycling 2 -
Diving 1 1
Fencing - 1
Football 1 -
Gymnastics - 1
Judo 2 1
Rowing 2 1
Rugby Sevens - 1
Softball 1 -
Swimming 6 8
Taekwondo - 1
Tennis - 1
Weightlifting 1 1
Total 24 21

We are three medals away from matching out total medal count of 2020 (which was a non-boycott record). Technically two medals since we are guaranteed one in beach volleyball. Cycling is going to let us down this time so we are going to rely on other sports. I'm hoping athletics and canoeing can bring it home, but we do have other opportunities. Here are our remaining chances (some better than others).

Athletics - Men's 800m

Athletics - Men's 4x100m Relay

Athletics - Women's 4x400m Relay

Athletics - Women's Shot Put

Breaking - B-Boys

Canoeing - Women's C1 200m

Canoeing - Women's C2 500m

Cycling - Women's Individual Sprint

Diving - Men's 10m Platform

Volleyball - Women's Beach Volleyball

Wrestling - Women's Freestyle Events

I also have a soft spot for women's duet artistic swimming, but that might be really pushing it.

At this point I'm actually pretty bullish that we'll set non-boycott records for both gold medals and overall medals. Knock on wood.

Dare I say it, matching the all time record of ten golds might still be possible.

We have a guaranteed medal today with Mel/Brandie going for gold in women’s beach volleyball. Sarah Mitton in women’s shot put, Sloan Mackenzie/Katie Vincent in women’s C2-500m, and our men’s 4x100m relay also have medal hopes.

  • Latest Posts around Totallympics

    • I guess that including or excluding a sport is just a part of some bigger agenda. Political, economical and so on. Sport itself is of lesser importance. IOC wont mind a (un)popularity of a sport if they have a bigger cause to fullfil.  These are facts but on mainstream media its rarely seen.

    • My fear is that every sports/disciplines not on the program will see it as a way in, and we end up with the World Games + Ski&Ice
    • Summer Olympics, hell yeah I’m all for it!    Winter Olympics, absolutely not.    Cross-country running events are held in the winter, but that doesn’t make it a winter sport, sorry. There is one caveat though if it were to, let’s say get added to to the Olympic program hypothetically, because it would weaken the strength of distance fields drastically due to scheduling.    Edit: None of this is directed at you, just the idiots (like Coe) that think this (putting a summer sport in the winter Olympics, not cross country running at the Olympics) is a good idea…
    • Normally I’d agree, but we need to flush out flag football first
