Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024 Medal Count

Compared to the predictions made before the Games, is France ahead of these predictions or not? Is there even a remote possibility for France to finish first in the rankings?

I think we are a bit ahead, despite some big disappointments (gymnastics, skateboarding, W rugby sevens..).

But two things :

- Getting Gold medals is and will always be a challenge for us. We still don't have many big favorites for the gain of titles (less than 10 I would say).

- The first week is very good for us (thanks to fencing and judo), and the second will be more difficult.

I think Japan will be third at the end (they seem to overperform?) . Then it will be the announced fight between :FRA:AUS, :ITA:GBR and :GER

Sadly Italy have a disappointing games, we have no chances for a top5.

Right now, at the end of Day 3, we have the following gold medals for the USA, China, and France:

:USA 3 gold medals (-4 compared to the same period at the 2020 Games)

:CHN 5 gold medals (-1 compared to the same period at the 2020 Games)

:FRA 5 gold medals (+4 compared to the same period at the 2020 Games)

This would imply the following total at the end of the 2024 Games:

:CHN China - 37 gold medals

:USA USA - 35 gold medals

:FRA France - 14 gold medals

Of course, all of this can change very quickly, I will update this table regularly.

Interesting! So 14 instead of the 27 that Nielsen thought? Feels like you can do around 20, no? I wonder how is Japan doing comparatively.

    • The Italian team has already achieved a better result than the Chinese team in 2022 at home. The Italian team has made enormous progress since 2023, when we were still losing to Korea and Poland. Of course, this is mainly due to naturalizations, but China did the same. It's one of the few sports that have made significant progress before these Olympics and this is how it should be in most disciplines at home games.
