very satisfied with Savita russo's outing Today

she did what she had to do, dominating :BEL Corrao and not giving an easy time to the (physically) stronger and more and more experienced :JPN Horikawa, who had to fight until 1 minute into the Golden Score to win the bout

unfortunately, I don't think it's enough to get into the Continental Repechage ranking :dunno:

but the mistake it's not hers, it's our coaching crew that left her out of the Grand Prix/Grands Slam tournaments in the past few months, just to bring Favorini to the competitions where she always failed to deliver (and Today in fact she got another embarassing elimination in the first fight against a girl from :MEX)

this is a bitterly wasted chance  :bones:

having said that, the draw sometimes can be a true crime, when some of the best fighters are not at the top of the multi-year rankings for some reason

in the -63kg in fact, we had a pool (so, a quarterfinal bracket) with all this women: :FRA Agbegnenou, :CAN Beauchemin-Pinard, :JPN Horikawa, :POR Timo and the recently crowned European Champion :CZE Zachova all together :yikes:

therefore, we can't be surprised if we have one of the most improbable lineup ever in the medal matches

in the men's -81kg, instead, no big surprise among the medal candidates

and shame for :ITA Antonio Esposito's mistake that cost him the win vs :GEO Gochilaidze, who then went on until the semis (where he lost a wonderful match vs :AIN -RUS- Arbuzov) and will fight in a few minutes for the Bronze medal

@phelps Angelika is our best chance for medal in Paris in any combat sport and first judo medal in 2000s, I hope that she will repeat this result in 2 months  :pope:

And she's only 21! Very impressive result and very promising growth in her second senior year.

I thought Clarisse Agbegnenou was the medal favorite in this class, but she was knocked out early today.

    • That's so they can play in both venues in Canada.  Will mean that the UEFA Path A winner has to go from Toronto to Los Angeles and then up to Seattle.   Someone was bound to draw the short straw in that group since 4 of the matches are Central, but 2 are in Santa Clara.  Unfortunately, that's Algeria.
